Mike Green & Chris Stewart?

Hey guys,

I was thinking about potential trade targets given both who we have on the block and the type of players I think we need. Here are my thoughts.

Trade 1:

VAN trades Mason Raymond and a 3rd Pick in the 2012 entry draft to STL for Chris Stewart.

+ Size
+ Grit
+ Depth
- No idea of he will regain his form
- No idea what his work ethic is

Trade 2a:

Van trades Roberto Luongo and their first round pick in the 2012 entry draft to WAS for Mike Green and Matt Hendricks.

OR

Trade 2b:

Van trades Roberto Luongo and their first round pick in the 2012 entry draft to TBL for Victor Hedman and Tom Pyatt.

OR

Trade 2c:

Van trades Roberto Luongo and their first round pick in the 2012 entry draft to TOR for Jake Gardiner and Matt Frattin

Green is Washington's franchise defenseman. He's going nowhere.

I do think Stewart could be an interesting pickup, would be a typical example of buying low to try to get medium/high value. He did get benched a lot under Hitchcock though and I don't think AV would treat him much better if his effort/defensive game isn't there every game.

Yeah I think Green would be a hard find, what do you think about Gardiner or Hedman? I think Gardiner is probably the easiest to pick up out of the three.

Do not want Mike Green and his injury problems, we have enough bad luck with dmen in Vancouver, don't need one that readily admits his injuries are something that'll probably follow him for the rest of his career.

Gardiner is Burkie's treasured possession, I really doubt he'll be traded for anything less than Schneider.

I don't know much about Hedman, though.

I'd take Green in a second. He's a better version of Ehrhoff. They have Holtby so Lu has no value to them.

Chris Stewart could be interesting for the right price. Definately a tough kid and could be at best solid 2nd liner and at worst, a real good 3rd liner.

The question about Green is if he fits in with Washington's new identity. Also, his injuries.

I would love Stewart on this team. I think he's ready to breakout.

That's just his biggest problems. If you want to be picky, you can also criticize his skating. I'm a big Avs fan (also Canucks fan), so I've followed him for a number of years. The Blues will unload him as soon as his stock rises a bit. The situation is similar in some ways to what happened to Wolski. Will he bounce back next season? Maybe. The problem is getting him motivated. He's just not a very good long-term piece.

I'd take John Carlson over Mike Green everyday of the week, twice on Sunday's.

If they were gonna move him the time would probably be now.

lol.

Tampa fans gonna come in here and call you a fool.

And they probably wouldn't be entirely wrong in doing so. I don't see any chance at all that Tampa would be silly enough to give up Hedman for Luongo.

But my favourite part is that it needed Tom Pyatt to balance in your estimation. Yep, that'll balance it.

AMEN.

Green's injuries woes, IMO, have depleted his game big time... hopefully he can get a full year in this season and get back track but if I'm WAS I'd consider the deal, if Im VAN I don't - Green's injuries would worry me

Fair enough, I only know of him from the few times I see him. I dont see him being any worse than Raymond though.

fyi chris kelly (and gregory campbell) is close to resigning with the bruins, according to the big wheels on twitter. can't remember if it was mackenzie or lebrun that tweeted it though.

Trade #1 is conceivable. Trade #2a is improbable but Luongo for Green isn't outrageous IMO.

Trades #2b and #2c are ludicrous (no offense)... Hedman for Luongo?!

None of those trades proposed should happen as far as the other GMs go.

If these are offered to us...I take them in a heartbeat.

Dream on about trade #1 : No way the Blues trade Stewart for Raymond and a 3rd rp. Raymond has speed but that's it IMO.

Yeah. Stewie had a tough year too. I'd be willing to add on our side to get a deal done for sure.

STL says no, they would rather get a top pairing LD back. Raymond isn't worth that.

WAS says no - they have Holtby + Neuvirth

TBL says no - young teams don't trade franchise d-men for a 33 year old goalie.

Let's hope Burke is willing to overpay because Leafs fans wouldn't touch that deal. Gardiner would be our #3 LD, probably more like a healthy scratch because I don't think he beats out Ballard defensively yet.

Factoring in health and contract, there's two defensemen on Washington I'd prefer over MG.

Which is why they're much more likely to give up MG.....
