Flyers cap

here is an overall prespective of the flyers cap. Now with the pending new labor aggreement, the new cap might change and to what we won't know until the new CBA is reached.

anyway, here is a list over the next several years at how the flyers shape up.

the good news is ian lapperiere, betts, and several dead money contracts finally come off the books.

http://capgeek.com/charts.php?Team=24

you can also see all clubs and see who will be a FA possibly.

we also have more than $3m to play with since we can exceed the cap by 10%. Homer can also make more room by demoting players like Wellwood and Rinaldo during the off-season just for cap purposes

re-sign all of our RFA. Aside from Voracek, the other 3 shouldnt get much of a raise from their current contract. Let all of our UFAs walk

There was an article discussing the CBA where the writer stated that many GMs are using 65 million as the rough estimate.

The Cap likely goes to 69 million before the new CBA is signed and gets pulled back some due to negotiated revenue sharing percentages.

I would definitely sign Bourdon(not Bourbon) and Voracek to new contracts.
Bourdon: Good speed, solid shot blocker and youth(22 yrs old)
Voracek: even greater speed, soft hands and a great passer, as he was in the playoffs. Note that Voracek is only 22 yrs old as well.
If we can't get Suter I guess signing Carle wouldn't be a bad thing but there are other free agents out there (Dennis Wideman, Shea Weber?)
Yes to Jagr, I know he seemed a little slow in the playoffs but he's JAGR!
No to Sestito, with the game changing to a more speedy game we don't need enforcers like this dude.(that's what Rinaldo is for)
Lappy is done, he won't be coming back to the NHL.
Let Betts go, we don't need him.
Kubina proved to me this year (when he played) that he has no endurance and has slowed considerably.
I have no idea who Zolnerchuck is?
And Pronger on long term IR frees up cap space as well.

Paul Holmgren said to the media that he expects it to be $69 million.

Harry Z? #29... probably played over 30 games with the big club this year. Good kid.

The cap will likely go up to $69million, and if there is a bonus cushion we will have an "extra" $3.5mil in presumed space, however I doubt they would used that space unless in an emergency.

This summer the 10% rule will more than cover Pronger, Walker and Bartulis who will be counted against the cap via their one-way deals... then in October when they come off the books our total space will be roughly $12.7million, which includes Jody Shelley/Lilja and doesn't include the bonus cushion.

$4mil for Voracek, hopefully only $4mil for Carle, maybe ~$0.9mil for Bourdon on a two-way... leaving ~$4.7mil+bonus cushion to work with with the possibility of removing Shelley/Lilja for an extra ~$2million. A physical right-handed defensemen with a decent shot would be really, really nice to be paired with Carle, while Bourdon/Gus are a good 6th/7th with Bourdon likely getting the nod thanks to his shot-blocking and physicality.

Weber is a RFA. Pronger's contract counts in the off season.

What?

We have like 14 -16 to "work" with.
Voracek, Jagr, Carle, Kubina is over 14 mil in "space".

We need 1 or 2 D out of that (depending on walker/gus playing) and probably 2 forwards.

We can play in UFA and sign voraceck after July 1 if we wish. I don't think a team will offersheet him something we can't/won't match. Plenty of time to jettison other salary if necessary as well.

That is incorrect. The Playing Season Waiver period is over. There is no such thing as demoting players during the Off Season. Players signed to two way deals such as Wellwood and Rinaldo count against the Off Season Cap commensurate with how much time they spent on the Flyers roster. And RFA's once a Qualifying Offer is made, also count the same on the Off Season Cap. If the Cap as rumored is 69M. The Off Season exemption would be 6.9M All of that would be taken up with just the RFA's and players on two way deals that spent the time on the Flyers roster. Such as Rinaldo, Wellwood, Bourdon etc. Not to mention the Flyers also have to carry 1.7M for Walker, and 600K for Bartulis. As they are signed to One way deals. So the Flyers do not have as much room as you think. Especially since they have to account for Pronger during the Off Season.
