Why should anyone care what a football guy says about hockey?

The guy use to cover the Caps and probably has some inside knowledge of how things work in the organization. What JLCF said is what I have been thinking for a while. As long the money keeps coming in why would Ted and GMGM change anything?

I'm as ready to dump on Ted as the next guy, but I could probably name 40-50 people that would have more knowledge than him. He was brutal when he was here, and has taken every opportunity to crap on the organization he's been given.

Such a novel thought. He's definitely the first person to suggest that.

Definitely at least the first media person.

Yeah, but he's not affiliated with the team in any way. No one has ever asked McPhee why management appears happy with making the playoffs, whether he thinks game 7 collapses indicate fundamental problems with the core, all the obvious questions that aren't even all that combative.

you tell me what happens if those two questions are asked?

1. we are not happy with just making the playoff!
2. no.

there are reasons people dont ask those two questions. you dont get anything you can use from the answers. unless the only reason you ask them is to antagonize mcphee.

Obviously there should be follow-up questions that point out inconsistencies and so on. The point is the incredibly low standards of the organization are facilitated by the local media. A nobody ex-beat reporter saying what he said is barely above another fan saying it on here.

So you didn't bother to listen? He certainly sounds pretty articulate in the segment. Can't disagree with a thing he said.

Certainly worth a listen if you just discounted it with a closed mind.

The most important line "if the fans are willing to pay the freight and continue to buy in, then you can stick with the status quo" (and keep blaming failure on a hot goalie or a post hit here or there).

When asked if he could beat John Tortorella's ass, #Caps head coach Adam Oates responded: "Yes. Easily."

It wasn't, but it fit within the (admittedly rather broad) scope of the existing thread. Nothing against you or the thread, just putting it in its context.

Oates vs Tortorella

I think Oates can probably take him so I agree with him. Tortorella seems to be angrier I'll give him that but Oates was a player not too long ago and that in itself makes him tough.

I'd pay to see a tag team match however. Oates+McPhee vs Tortorella+Sather

We'd so crush them

I see Torts as the kind of guy that would use a folding chair.

Oates was the biggest pacifist on the ice. Torts would destroy him (would probably fight dirty).

Or a water bottle more likely. I think Torts is all bark and little bite. He'd probably start running out of the room if challenged.

McPhee could beat up Torts and Sather at the same time by himself.

CCF,

Oates was a lady binger but just the fact that he played in the NHL qualifies him as tougher than the loudmouth Fonzie.

Didn't realize Torts was 5'8. OK, even Lady Byng Oates should be able to take that on successfully.

Yea, at 5'8" you can see he took a lot of sticks to the face.
Also bodes well for the shrimpy MP!

153 PIMs in scrub league is still impressive. Maybe it won't be a cakewalk for Oates afterall?

Still hate him and now I wish I'd stayed up and watched that game last night. After Stepan scored I went to bed b/c I couldn't stand McGuire creaming over the three headed monster of Stepan/Callhan/McDonagh.

It was getting annoying enough as it was in the 1st 2 periods.

"* Alex Ovechkin, Adam Oates and the conspiracy theorists in D.C. fit nicely into what has become the Capitals’ Culture of Losing.

It has become pervasive, infecting a franchise that always somehow finds something or someone to blame for its failings.

Could the Caps have been awarded a power play or two in Game 6? Of course. Should Mike Green have been given a 5-minute major and game misconduct for using his stick to smack Derek Dorsett across the mouth? Without a doubt.

Oh, did you hear that Ovechkin had a fractured bone in his foot when he ran 40 feet to smash Ryan McDonagh in the first period of Game 7?

They are perennial disappointments in D.C., where the locker room apparently was built without mirrors.

* File this one away for the July 5 opening of the free agent market: If there’s one guy on that Capitals club the Rangers have come to respect over the course of their annual playoff confrontations, that would be Matt Hendricks, the jagged-edged center who kills penalties and fits the Black-and-Blueshirt mold.

Hendricks, who turns 32 next month, will be coming off a contract under which he earned $825,000 per. Expect the Rangers to put in a call when the market opens."

Don't worry; those usually come with out clauses so the Caps can still get him back

Laich on 106.7

Under Bruce players were not held accountable.

Dale not as tactical but fantastic handling momentum swings, the bench, everything. Loved playing for Dale.

Oates is super technical.
