wtf are you guys smoking? The Hawks need D, they are not going to trade Hammer unless we get a top 4 d man in return.

There are D in free agency. Get Purcell, then turn around and sign Suter. It would be an absolute must though. No problem with that for me at all.

I'd rather wait a year and try to get Weber - he is the superior player.

Agreed but if Suter goes, they'll probably pay Weber at all costs and furthermore I'm not interested in throwing away any more seasons.

Why would the Hawks trade Hammer and not get a d man in return?

Makes no sense.

Because they can sign Suter to upgrade over Hammer. There isn't anyone like Purcell in free agency. Purcell will be cheap next year too, 2.375M. But I still say we swap 1sts too or no deal to be made.

I could see them moving him because they feel they can't pay him more than the 3.5 million.

Leddy. Suter would be a great partner for him and allow him to take the next step in my opinion. But, I know where you are going with this, following it up with acquiring a good physical, defensive D-man for the 3rd pairing would be the next move.

Ugh nothing about Leddy's play says he should be getting top 4 minutes yet. Also, Suter wouldn't be playing on our second pairing, you don't pay him that much money to. It just seems like going this route is building up a lot of free agent signings, first Suter then another guy. It just seems like you'd be adding too much and it's a really backwards way of fixing the defense.

At least one of Suter, Keith and Seabrook being on the ice for 80% of the game seems like a pretty good way to fix it. I know I'd feel a HELL of a lot more comfortable watching this team were that to be the case. Who plays with Suter and who plays the most would have to be determined game by game, and within the game, situation by situation but the main thing is the big 3 would be out there most of the time.

If the Hawks sign Suter, a big salary has to go. Hammer's isn't big enough. This team already is too top heavy and some of you want to make it worse.

Dump Frolik. The team isn't too top heavy either, Bowman just makes it look that way by relying on players like Pisani and Morrison and leaving millions on the sidelines. The constant stream of players on ELCs will make it all work. There was no second wave after the Cup year. That was part of the problem.

There was a few million unused. But as we went over the other day - the Hawks spent the most in the NHL by far on payroll last year.

and if we don't sign Suter we are royally screwed. The chance that sign him would be an outside one at best.

yeah i agree. signing suter would be amazing, but it just doesn't seem very likely. too much money and i can't see him playing in the second pairing

When it comes to moving someone in order to fit Suter on the roster:

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush

Sign Suter first, THEN move a contract to fit him.

Obviously, Hammer will be in demand no matter what. Frolik, you dump ASAP regardless.

Of course, when you have too many birds in your hand, and other teams know it...you end up not getting equal value back like in the Byfuglien, Ladd and Vertseeg trades.

True, that's why dumping Frolik is No. 1 priority at the draft. Get him out of here and we are in great shape to do whatever we want.

Yeah, if there wasn't any cap, I'd keep him but to make the big moves this team NEEDS, adios Fro.

If the Hawks are going to splurge, it should be for Zach Parise. Not sure if he would consider coming here though.

I can't see why he wouldn't. He'd put up career high numbers playing with our all stars on the first two lines.
