Finland's national anthem is simply HORRIBLE. If we replaced it with Finlandia-hymni, then Finland would at least be in top3. This rocks!

Ps. How can I post a youtube-link with the video to this site?

I like the czech one and it's always gonna be the n1 for me, unlike some other anthems, it's not a "military march", it's very peaceful and calm, but with a homer mode off and based on their musical qualities alone, i like the Russian the best probably, the American would be in second place with a solid gap.

Best is simply the Marseillaise, even I don't like French much I especially like the version from Casablanca movie. I also like the Scottish (Flower of Scotland) and New Zealand anthems. Melody of the Swedish anthem is nice as well

Outside the big hockey countries, Iraq:

From the top 10, Russia is number one, and France is the best if we iclude the 10 below, about equal to the russian.

^^lol you chose the best vid from the looks ot it.

I like the russian and canadian hymn, but to me the french is the nicest. You really get the "Marchons, Marchons" feeling. Also, it has a real text, unlike germany with our gay unity and peace crap

The lyrics are good if you include everything, these days germany only sing the third one IIRC

Mine is Russian (what a surprise). I also like the US anthem, music wise is nice.

I remember in the '90s after the break up of USSR, they were considering changing the anthem (and they actually did for a short while). But one of the hymns was "Farewell Slovyanka" which I was hoping would become the National Anthem.

I like it more than the current Russian one:

I like the ones from: France, Italy and Canada.

The Swiss one is actually pretty boring.

As a canadian I always like the soviet anthem which I first heard during the 1972 Canada Russia hockey series.

Terrible idea for the country where 20% of population are not Slavs.

USSR/Russia. That's some powerful stuff. Close second is the German anthem.

I've always found the Swedish anthem as the most beautiful (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaNZGUW6eVU)

Finnish anthem is an old german beerhouse song and it sounds like it. Finlandia would be hundred times better.

I'd argue that there isn't any national anthem out there that is as symbolically powerful as La Marseillaise. It's as much an anthem of revolution as it is a national anthem.

Strictly musically, I really like the Italian and the Canadian anthems.

Well, Åland is by law and international treaty a monolingual Swedish speaking autonomous province of Finland. They also have protection for land ownership: only people who have ancestors on Åland can buy land from there. Some years ago I seem to remember some municipal workers of Mariehamn got reprimanded for speaking Finnish during their break... So, it's not maybe the best loved piece of Finland among the Finnish speakers... I don't mind having Swedish as the second official language, but I think in the case of Åland things have gone bit too far.

if the French were as good soldiers as singers, they would win that war easily :-))

Russia and France easily. Sweden is also very good, especially the part "Jag vil leva, jag vil dö i Norden"
