if the French were as good soldiers as singers, they would win that war easily :-))
Historically speaking, France are actually the most successful military nation in Europe.
Quote:
According to the historian Niall Ferguson, of the 125 major European wars fought since 1495, the French have participated in 50 – more than Austria (47) and England (43). Out of 168 battles fought since 387BC, they have won 109, lost 49 and drawn 10.
That's a pretty impressive record, winning more than twice as many battles than they have lost.
The Canadian Anthem is the best, since it is the anthem of the best hockey country in the world. This is the anthem from the Gold Medal Final, starting at 7:27. It will be heard again in Sochi after the Gold Medal Final in 2014. The anthems being played in this Exhibition Minor League Tournament called the WHC for the winning teams, are meaningless. The true last best on best was 2010. Besides Canada, I always loved the American Anthem. Hoping for an another Canada-USA final in Sochi.

The French inadeuqance or "surrendering" if you will, in battle, is a disguting historical forging and lie perpetrated by the much, much more useless British.

Somehow it's still used as fact today.
"History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon."
Among the other major hockey countries, I guess I like the revolutionary march-sounding "Nad tatrou sa blyska", but at the other end of the spectrum, there's something alluring and majestic about "Du gamla, du fria".
And yeah, Sibelius' Finlandia probably should be the Finnish anthem (I actually thought it was, for the longest time.)
The Swedish is alright and all.. But there is no power really. More a song than a powerful anthem.
If only the Serge could be alive for the frenchies, stepping out on the ice with aux armes..
Russians can sing the most hilarious lyrics unfortunately.
For me there is only Oi maamme. It'd give me chills if indeed it's true that Loiri will sing it prior to the Kazakhstan game. Humorously enough he is not only a wonderful singer, but a comedian who should do his own Borat.
The lyrics are good if you include everything, these days germany only sing the third one IIRC
It's was considered nationalistic. But then again, it's a national anthem. It's completely OK with me though. Otherwise it would have been the same anthem as during the Nazi time. Understandable.
