Only WC countries (UK got a good one which I exclude for example)
Top 5:
Russia (Bombastic, should be sung by an army choir.)
Germany (As above but not as good))
Sweden (a bit homer, but it is aright)
French (get extra points for its history)
USA (to slow, no drive but still has that something)
It's was considered nationalistic. But then again, it's a national anthem. It's completely OK with me though. Otherwise it would have been the same anthem as during the Nazi time. Understandable.
Well to be fair, the Horst-Wessel-Lied a.k.a Die fahne hoch was the hymn for NS Germany.
Terrible idea for the country where 20% of population are not Slavs.
I'm talking about the music, which I like. That march has a lot of history for anyone who fought for Russia in the last 100 years, just for your information.

I can understand the change as the removed lyrics state that Germany reach from Maas to Memel.
It is like Sweden would state that Sweden reach from Vorpommern to St Petersburg.

I think almost everybody was thinking about it, but then didn't just because somebody else would probably do it. It's great you posted it because it's actually pretty good IMO.
The Canadian Anthem is the best, since it is the anthem of the best hockey country in the world. This is the anthem from the Gold Medal Final, starting at 7:27. It will be heard again in Sochi after the Gold Medal Final in 2014. The anthems being played in this Exhibition Minor League Tournament called the WHC for the winning teams, are meaningless. The true last best on best was 2010. Besides Canada, I always loved the American Anthem. Hoping for an another Canada-USA final in Sochi.

I bet you're one of us who think Sibelius Finlandia Hymn would be better Anthem for us. I dont blame you, but the anthem we have now is not that bad. Its actually pretty good, but its just not epic enough for us.
Must say I absolutely love the French and Russian anthems though.
The Canadian one is kind of bland, unless it's for some epic event, such as winning Olympic Gold! (still get chills from hearing the crowd at Canada Hockey Place sing it)
Historically speaking, France are actually the most successful military nation in Europe.
That's a pretty impressive record, winning more than twice as many battles than they have lost.
Yeah well, those records doesn't say much. During the Napoleonic wars for example France had a standing army of some 2.500.000 soldiers. No wonder they easily beat their much smaller neighbors. In comparison Great Britain had some 200.000 thousand infantry soldiers. Lucky for them their navy was far superior, effectively keeping Napoleon out of the British isles.
I have a slightly different question (but one that wouldn't be appropriate for a new thread). How many national anthems can you recognize when listening to the music alone*.
I could recognize the anthems of Canada, UK, France, US, and Russia if hearing the music.
*I say this b/c the Canadian national anthem starts with the words "Oh Canada"...so with respect to the cdn anthem, could you recognize it by music alone?

Reason: changed "wrt" to "with respect to" b/c i figured others wouldn't get my shorthand

It really should be thought.. Its one of the greatest composes there has been done and its about Finland
I personally perfer to live in a lie, and think its our true national Hymn. Its better this way.
I like this nightwish version too. Actually love it. Some say its a disgrace for the hymn, some say its better than medicore sex.. All we know is, its called the Finlandia :
