If Gagner gets traded Edmonton needs to have an upgrade at 2C lined up. Can't go back to having Horcoff in the top-six. *shudder*

And I don't see how another small forward helps the Leafs.

For me Bozak is a fine plug on the top line. Gagner is an improvement, but I don't see the point in acquiring him. He would play on the first line, but only until we get the #1 center that we would still be looking for.

No thanks from the Leafs.

Maybe Franson for Gagner straight up, but no way we includ a high 2nd round pick.

No dice. Leafs have a very good 2nd line centre in Grabovski. They need a big skilled 1st line centre and a big defensive 3rd line centre.

Would Leafs be interested in Bozak+Franson+3rd for Gagner?

value seems right but leafs would not do it, gagner is at best a 2nd line C and the leafs have one. they also have a potentially good 3rd line C in bozak if they ever get around to getting that 1st line C they need. i.e. unless its a 1C it won't be happening.

Like I said, we would still be looking for a #1 center if we got Gagner in my opinion so I just don't see him coming to the leafs unless he is apart of a bigger deal (RNH/Hall/Eberle/Yakupov) which is so unlikely I don't even think there is a number that low

Gagner can be the number 1 for a few years... Whoever they draft at number 5 is years away...

He is better than Bozak and has room to grow... Franson and a High 2 is fair.

Meh. We just have enough 40-50pt small forwards. We need someone with either top3 potential, or size in the top-6, or both.

I don't see Bozak or Gagner being the leafs #1 center when the leafs finally get around to competing. We have Grabbo at #2 already meaning he would slide down to 3rd line likely. I just don't see the leafs giving up assets for someone to eventually play on the 3rd line when we have players already who can fill that role (Bozak, maybe Colborne?). Gagner is better than Bozak and I think Gagner can still get better, I just don't see the reason for trading for him.

I guess the value isn't horrible, but I don't see the attraction in Franson for Edmonton.

We should have a sticky "Oilers/Leafs" trade thread. We can have all sorts of bitter ugly battles in one thread!

I'm down for that, means I don't have to have as many tabs open

Zero reason for the Leafs to do this trade.

Even if Gagner is better than Bozak, neither are long-term solutions to the #1 center position, and Bozak has chemistry with Kessel.

No point giving up a 35th overall pick alone, let alone a young defenceman who looked really good in stretches last season.

we have everything Gagner brings in Bozak.. so no real need to make this trade..

Bozak has good chemistry with Kessel and Lupul and if thats where you have Gagner playing there is no upside to this trade.

this past season:

Gagner: 75gp 18 goals 29 assists
Bozak: 73gp 18 goals 29 assists

Gagner > Bozak ? since when?

maybe offensively, and even then, Bozak is much better defensively and a better fit on the Kessel line

ideally we get a real top center...

Since they were drafted, and actually probably before that too without a doubt.

Gagner
366 games (per game)
77 goals (.21)
143 assists (.39)
220 (.60)

Bozak
192 games (per game)
41 goals (.21)
65 assists (.34)
106 (.55)

just based on point production, not to much of a difference over their careers..

not enough to warrant trading an asset to get a player type we already have..

Wouldn't trade the 2nd straight up for Gagner. He not much better than Bozak, don't see the point to this trade.
