ECSF Game 6: Rangers @ Caps. 7:30pm. VC. 5.9.2012 (Return of the Ward Thread)

LIVE ON CBC, RDS, NBCSN RADIO: CAPS RADIO 1500

TV: NBCSN
Radio: 1500AM, 820AM, XM and Caps Radio Network
Pre-Game: Two-Man Advantage at 3 p.m., John Walton’s one-on-one audio with Dale Hunter at 3 p.m. on washingtoncaps.com.

Washington Capitals (42-32-8), 92 points
New York Rangers (51-24-7), 109 points

Game 6, Eastern Conference semifinal series (Rangers lead series, 3-2)

Two nights ago, the Caps were mere seconds away from finishing off another one-goal win over the Rangers and taking a 3-2 series lead in the Eastern Conference semifinal. That precarious lead fell apart late in the game and in excruciating fashion, and the Rangers roared their way to a 3-2 overtime win.

New York now leads the series 3-2 and is a win away from eliminating the Caps and moving to the third round for the first time since 1997.

The Caps nursed a 2-1 lead into the final minute of Game 5 and seemed poised to head home with a series lead of their own. But then a Joel Ward double-minor led to a tying New York power play goal with just 6.6 seconds left in regulation, and the Rangers won it with another extra-man strike just 102 seconds later in overtime.

Game 6. One game at a time.

I don't want to scare anyone but we actually have a chance to win the Cup this year.

I thought that too. Until last night

Either way. I am proud of this team. Exceeded my expectations.

I live in Buffalo and fans all over have counted the Caps out for most of the season. I never understood all the smack people talk about this team. They have been the most exciting team to watch the last few seasons, although admittedly there's been plenty of ugly in the past season and a half.

Regardless, with their incredibly improved defense and Holtby shutting down many chances, I am not surprised to see so many tight games. Two of the three Ranger wins had to come in OT.

I do believe they can win game 6 at home...and the Boston series proves they're certainly capable of winning a game 7 in a hostile building.

Here's to hoping the big guns take some pressure off the D and Holtby tomorrow.

Caps in 7.

All I expect is that the boys leave it all on the ice.

As long as that happens let the chips fall where they may.

I thought it would go 7 games, too. I'm convinced it will. Probably OT in Game 7.

well put. usually this time of year, i'm pissed of because how the team has let me and everyone down after a great regular season. now, i'm feeling hope for the future (dale hunter is king, it's time we all admit it) and i go in watching this game feeling that they can win any game, against anyone if the stars are aligned.

next season should be great btw. wideman and semin UFA... the possibilites

C'mon boys - you CAN do this. Puck on net can lead to puck in net - bounces have to start going your way.

One of the core (Nicky, Green, AO, AS) is going to score.

One of the foot soldiers (Beagle, Hendricks, Wides, Knuble) is going to score.

One of the newest fellas (Wardo, Hamr, Brouwer) is going to score.

Team effort - good luck and have fun.

Normally not a big fan of +- ratings, but the caps ratings in playoffs are extrem.

Hamerlik +8 Schultzi and Wideman -7.

Think says it all about our defensman.
Stats actually prove what we see every game.
Please Dale make some adjustmens there.
Orlov and Erksine can not do any worse.

This is the classic take one game at a time.

Unleash the f'in fury dammit. Green tried to last game, and look for him to try again tonight. Hopefully Ovi won't try to take the puck off his stick as he is breaking right in on Lundy's glove hand.

With Philly out of the picture it feels like destiny for us to win this series and ultimately beat New Jersey. Ugh this is gonna be a tough series to lose if it happens.

Well you know those times
When you feel like there's a sign there on your back
Says I don't mind if ya kick me
Seems like everybody has
Things go from bad to worse
You'd think they can't get worse than that
And then they do

If you're going through hell
Keep on going, don't slow down
If you're scared, don't show it
You might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there

Yeah, If you're going through hell
Keep on moving, face that fire
Walk right through it
You might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there
