After Diaz ...Damian Brunner?

Looks like the Montreal Canadiens made an offer to Damian Brunner

One of the best if not the foward of his country

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...v=jdaOemuCXp8#!

Cue the comments on size in 3, 2, 1...

Also, not sure it is an HF credible source...

No idea who he is, but it's a league filled with some pretty talented players, so if he can lead the scoring race there, it says something. The Diaz moved panned out well for us. As did Streit (slightly different approach). So I'm all for heading to Switzerland instead of the lands of the Lahti's and Engqvists. Or at least, in addition to it. Anyway, the UFA pickings are not looking great, so any opportunities to add options cheaply like this are worth pursuing. His size isn't ideal, but I will assume he skates well, and if we're looking to plug some scoring gaps up front, worth a shot. Diaz was a pleasant surprise. Of course, it doesn't in any way affect the "real work" the GM will do in preparation for July 1st, but nevertheless, even these longer shot options are worth stockpiling if we can.

Is he a wing or a center? can't tell from video and hockeydb doesn't have it listed.

Damien Brunner

Born Mar 9 1986
Height 5.10 -- Weight 176

2006-07 Kloten Swiss-A 42 9 9 18 22
2007-08 Kloten Swiss-A 50 5 2 7 8
2008-09 Thurgau Swiss-B 3 1 3 4 4
2008-09 Kloten Swiss-A 17 0 3 3 6
2008-09 Zug Swiss-A 36 12 14 26 16
2009-10 Zug Swiss-A 47 23 35 58 22
2010-11 Zug Swiss-A 40 19 27 46 34
2011-12 Zug Swiss-A 45 24 36 60 48

Led his team in scoring by 21 points. Plays the same team as Glen Metropolit. Also the same team Diaz used to play for. Another undersized player. Will need more beef to surround him.

I love how deeply we're invested in Switzerland. Plenty of gems there for Timmins to uncover.

I saw him against France, saturday, he was all over the ice. Speedy, creative, good hands. I liked what I saw.

That will help a lot with signing him. IIRC Metro convinced Diaz to sign with us.

I could see him playing with Eller. He desperately needs a linemate to play give n go with.

Looks to have a high skillset and use it at a high speed. Very hard to tell how he'd do in the murderous checking of the NHL. Boom or bust, probably. More than worth a chance.

I am delighted, I actually have been very interested in this player for a while! Hope it is true and we get him...no disrespect to Enquivist , whom I wanted to see succeed but Damian has much more ooomph, could be a taller version of desharnais out there and would excel with a Moen on his side much like how desharnais did well with the pair of power forwards we have

If he can score in shoot out... Why not !

http://eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=18949

He's listed at 5'11-186 lbs and he is a real RW... And they say he plays a gritty style of game...

I think this is more speculation. Is Hockey30 reliable? I mean it's a pretty good educated guess to say the Habs are interested in a good Swiss player from a team where they got Diaz just last year from and have had a history of drafting Swiss players (Streit/Weber).

Sounds good! Nothing wrong with more depth we're pretty lacking in forward prospects so this could really help.

Nice hands. He's worth a one year ELC contract even if he turns out to be just a shoot-out specialist. Seriously, we NEED to improve in this area.

He could be the 3rd RW behind Cole and Gionta. Moen - Eller - Brunner.
It also allows us to send Leblanc to the AHL for some more seasoning.

Cool, but, good God those uniforms are hideous. I mean, even the freakin' refs look ugly out there.

Please make it happen Mr. Bergevin! Leblanc would be so much better off with a full season of AHL!

Interesting. There's a hole at 2nd LW, but sure why not? This could give a chance for Leblanc to start in Hamilton.

EDIT: I see we're all on the same page regarding Leblanc.
