4-0 for Finland. Unless Kazakhstan wakes up and performs like they did in the USA match, then it's gonna be a hard game for us.

It will be tight. Two sorry teams facing each other with no stakes.

I hope they practise to play with 3 D pairs. If Salmela is out (thank god) put mickey mouse hietanen out as well

I am still shocked about yesterday....

Just heard from Canal+ ´s Leijonatreenit that Kiiskinen will replace Joensuu, Tuppurainen will replace Pyörälä. 13th forward Pyörälä.

That would actually be the worst thing that could happen.

In such a case the coaches would think Our Game™, based
on always giving the puck backwards first (unless we're already
behind our own goal - then it's passed in front of our own goal ),
still works against every opponent and we would face another
buttrape by USA in the QF's.

IMO we should try some variation in our game today even
at the cost of a tighter score or even losing a point.

Of course I don't wish for a loss, but even that would not
be a catastrophy, as strangely enough I think we'd have a
better chance vs CAN than USA in the QF's this year.

Kazakhstan 1-0 win. Finland can't score and Vehanen will be solid.

Btw, I am really pissed off about how this team stopped playing in front of Kärppä, and even more pissed off with that fool Jalonen for not pulling him earlier. I guess Lehtonen will be the next Finnish player to join the list of refusers. A list which keeps growing and growing... Pretty sad that we could only muster 3 forwards, shows that there is an issue.. And don't bring up injuries and all the other crap, these are just excuses as the players really just aren't interested.

Yeah. I mean, both the team and the organization behind this tournament are currently far from the A game, and I wouldn't mind seeing some heads roll, but hoping bad things for one because the other isn't doing us happy is a bit silly.

To clarify: I'm not saying there should be no blame. What I'm saying is that there should be separate blame.

It's sort of amazing how bipolar we Finns can be when it comes to hockey. I mean, after the first two games we were like and - then SUI and FRA rolled along and we went to and and after the weekend, we're all and and especially .

Get a grip, guys. The tournament's still underway.

I kinda agree that blowout win here would just cause problems but we didn't play Our Game™ at all against USA. It's not Our Game™, if puck possession was something like 60-40 for USA. The purest triumph of Our Game™ was the 1st period against Canada. That's what it looks like when you execute it perfectly. Maybe I'm naive but I still believe that Our Game™, total hockey, puck possession hockey or whatever it is called is the way to go.

P. Sihvonen and co have criticized Finland's way of playing almost pure man-to-man defense which obviously doesn't work against more skilled and fast opponents. Every time we lose 1-on-1 battle in our own end it's something dangerous and we lose those battles all the time. It also doesn't help Our Game™ because after getting the puck in our own zone we are not prepared to attack quickly. I think there's some very good points in this video regardless of what you think of Sihvonen. (I know most people hate him or laugh at him because of his arrogance but I like his attitude )

http://www.urheilulehti.fi/jaakiekko...uolella-ollaan

Anyways it's interesting to see how Finland plays against Kazakhstan and if they address any of the faults in their game.

Well, I've been criticising the fact that some players are following
Our Game™ (first pass backwards to slow down the pace and to
give time for everyone to regroup) too scrupulously.

It doesn't work against teams who are forechecking deep in our
zone - look at the games vs SUI, CAN and USA.

If a team unfairly puts high pressure on our def, Our Game™ falls
like a house of cards with the inability to give the first pass forward.
The core idea of Our Game™ is to control a game in our tempo, but
when the opponent doesn't agree, we're in trouble.

Yes, the CAN game was done with Our Game™-strategy.
Just that the CAN started putting high pressure on the puckholder
in the 2nd and we all know what happened then.

Yesterday USA did it the whole game and we were a bunch of
kids headlessly running around and crying when someone stole
our candy. Because we never had a chance to start Our Game™
due to the deep forecheckers.

We were left with... well nothing. There was no option, no
alternate style. Everyone froze.

A complete inability to respond to different situations, different
opponents with different tactics even within a game, is the
downfall of Our Game™.
