He hasn't tried to do a toe drag move in like a year.

He back checks when he loses the puck, he backchecks any time he sees a play going the other direction with his linemates being deep, often being the last man back. He is usually very successful at takeaways in the neutral zone and is quick to pressure attackers in our own zone. Everyone knows his PKing abilities, though I wouldn't be surprised to see you try marginalizing that somehow as well. The simple fact of the matter is that he plays defense above and beyond your average (even your above average) NHL winger. For all the issues he may have not playing defense is not one of them and trying to bring it up just makes you seem desperate to find something to hate. Why not talk about how he has a horrible wrist shot while we're at it? Maybe how he's the slowest player in the NHL? If we start making **** up why just stop at him not playing defense? Surely you can use the power of make believe better than that

We can stop this discussion after the first sentence "He hasn't tried the toe drag in like a year". That proves to me your not watching/attending too games.

Really! Are we going to use Ovechkin's play at the WC to indict Hunter's coaching? Folks posting such nonsense here are just blinded by their dislike for Hunter and the style of hockey he stressed with the Capitals or just ignoring the obvious differences between the WC and NHL play and more specifically NHL playoffs.
- Size of rinks are different
- NHL teams have more experience and knowledge of playing against Ovechkin than international teams, in other words they have a book on him now. Isn't that one of the issues with Ovechkin, NHL teams have changed or learned how to play and defend against him and he has not really changed or adjusted his game to counter this new "defense" against him.
- NHL teams and defense pairings in particular have had ample time to prepare and play together in order to address the Ovechkins. Finland and Norway have not had such a luxury and thus they're more reliant upon the individual player/defender having an outstanding game against Ovechkin.
- The type of play/style that we see the remaining NHL playoff teams play and for that matter Hunter's Capitals, these systems takes time to develop and gel. More time than international teams have together in preparing for WC or other international tournaments.

Game started, Ovi with good pressure to get the puck out of defensive zone good backhand pass to Semin for a shot from the blue line.

You're delusional if you think he does toe drags with any notable frequency now.

Hes the odd man out. He isn't the physical defensive player they need on lines 3 and 4 so they got him on the bench.

I don't really get it, but if you look at the roster is 4 lines then theres 2 extra players, I don't know what the rules are regarding them playing, Kuznetsov only played a few minutes last game in the same position.

Question; Is this the kind of thing he'd worry about for the Olympics? If he's not actually in Russia proving his abilities he won't be able to play for them like now?

Thats how his lastname is pronunced and correctly written in non-Russian. Dont know which dumb (probably) NHL official came up with Semin as he never was one.

I want Semin to stay with the Caps. WOE.

The Ovie-Semin-Dats. line has been amazing today.

Well he almost changed it to that early on but decided not too. I'm going on memory with no linkage but I'm pretty positive that was the case for what its worth. Personally I was hoping he would have made the change at the time.
