IIHF World ChampionshipDiscuss International Tournaments like the WJC, Olympics, and World Cup, as they take place, or discuss past tournaments. performances.
I guess it depends on how you look at the IIHF's top hockey nations ranking, but the fact that most people in Canada (understandably) don't care about the WHC (and pretty much any IIHF women's tournament), yet the same people are heavily invested in tournaments such as the Olympics and World Cup.
As most people know, a teams performance in the Olympics and World Cup have no bearing on the "official" international ranking list as they are not IIHF tournaments. But shouldn't the ranking list be reason enough why fans should take more time to focus on tournaments like the WHC and IIHF women's tournaments?
Not sure why you are bringing up women's tournaments (and relative to every other country I would say Canada does care about it) as it would obviously have nothing to do with the men's rankings.
the problem with canada is that it's canada that decides when a tournament is important or not for everyone else.
It's not a problem, you beat our olympic team and we feel we've truly been beaten, you beat our whc team and we simply just see the highlights on sportscentre.
That doesn't mean to say we don't care at all about the WHC, we just don't care nearly as much as we do for the Stanley Cup Playoffs that are going on at the same time, we still want to hear Canada did well.
Americans have the most players in NHL, obviously. So they don't get their all players available for the team. They should move the start of the tournament by some time so NHL ends.
See people these clowns have no clue about hockey, all they know is NHL.....
Canada does care about WHC...not only HFboards... if you'd win the gold you would all certainly celebrate.
As i said before, I bet Crosby and the rest who didnt accept invitation would play if WC was held in NA, just lazy to come to Europe after playoffs.

See that is where you are wrong, we really wouldn't lol. There has never been any celebration in Canada from a World Championship victory. Olympics, heck yeah celebrations are huge, but not WHC. Anyways jealousy kills guys, keep bashing Canada. See you in 2014.
I guess we know why Swedes don't care about the U20's then.
We care alot about U20 in sweden. Over 530 000 people saw the finals last tournament. Which is ALOT considering it started 02:00 am or something like that. So dont say we dont care becuse we do.

You really think there would have been so many viewers if Sweden had not played in the final?

Well.
1. It's not a pro-tournament, it's a "kids" tournament. Thus only countries with real programs have a chance in the tournament.
2. The swedes have actually started to care recently because of two things:
- They have gotten some great hockey-programs(it's getting professionalized) and therefore more people follow.
- They have had a lot of bad luck in some tournaments, and the interest has gotten bigger because of major headlines and hope.
Its not strange that so many canadiens doesnt care about it. They only have 6 goldmedals since 1960 so its not a real tournament
I only wish we could have been playing a best of 7 with Sweden since 1960. That would have made for some really stimulating matches. Perhaps you wouldn't be playing hockey now!
