Mgmt has faith in Sacco, and Sacco apparently has faith in Sly.

I'm OK with it. Let's get Suter and see what Sly can do with a better defensive lineup.

Our defense played great last year.

This is good news.

Not happy with it, but it is what it is. D seems to often lost or out of position, and they resign their coach for 2 more years. Thus, I don't expect much improvement next year, or the year after, with this staff in place.

Well it would help if he was given more talented defensemen to work with. There is only so much one can do with the D he was presented with.

Rumors circulated on this board during the season that it was Lefebve that was actually the "screamer" of the coaches, and was not on good terms with some of the players, notably O'Brien.

I am still hoping O'Brien re-signs, I think if they limit his minutes he's quite effective, but with Lefebve coming back, I think that becomes less and less likely

I knew I heard something along the lines of Lefebvre not getting along with some of the players. I am not going crazy!

I am pretty indifferent towards this signing, just like I am towards the rest of the coaching staff at this point. Do I like the signing? Meh. Do I hate the signing? I don't think so. Do I know what to think of this signing? Nope! Next season should give us fans more insight concerning coaching. ...hopefully.

If I was a coach I would constantly scream at O'Brien too. If he could learn to play within himself, he would be a very good defenseman. Instead he thinks he is Bobby Orr and constantly puts his teammates in bad spots.

For the record I want to re-sign O'Brien as well.

If we re-sign O'Brien and Gaunce proves he can do everything but better, the option of trading/waiving O'Brien always exists. Somebody would pick him up.

I'm surprised to hear this, I thought for sure he was going to take a head coaching gig (forgot which team/league). At least that's what Dater led me to believe (lol... consider the source, I know).

I'm personally happy with Sly returning.

If he could, he would have got a shot to do it this past season.

I'm not so sure why everyone is expecting Gaunce to step right in and play like a proven commodity.

I do tend to forget that Gaunce is down in LE...I also wouldn't mind seeing him get a more "legitmate" shot w/ the Avs, I didn't think he did too terribly in his limited stint 2years ago.

Maybe Gaunce could get a tryout at Right Wing?

I disagree. They did however play more conservatively but that doesn't mean they played better.

Are you serious? Look at our defenseman. They got a lot out of that group. Much more than you can honestly expect. It certainly wasn't coaching that was holding that group back.

Wohoo, bring on the mediocrity.

I guess the silver lining is that I still believe Sacco + co are being set up to get replaced when the team is right on the cusp of being a true contender.

Ahem, the team was:

- 15th in the league in GA
- 12th in the league in the PK

Compare that to the year before (2010 - 2011 season)

- 30th in the league in GA
- 30th in the league in PK

Now is S.L. THE reason for the 180 change? Probably not. The defense is revamped more. However he should get some credit. So, two years doesn't seem that bad.

Its the head coach I am more upset about. But that horse has been beaten enough.

It was supposed to be with the new QMJHL team in Sherbrooke (the Sherbrooke Phoenix [owner Jocelyn Thibault ]) but he decided to stay put.

I'd like to think so as well but he's proven practically nothing at the NHL level...for now.

I'd be surprised to see O'Brien come back at this point. I initially really wanted him to come back but when I think about the 3-4 games that he single-handedly cost us down the stretch, combined with his impending pay raise and the fact that he can't really be counted on to be a top-4 guy, I think the Avs will pass on him. I think the $$$ he's going to command from some team out there is going to outweigh his actual worth. I don't see the Avs paying $2M+ for a bottom pairing d-man.

Resign O'Brien if we can't get Garrison or Suter.

Let him go if we do.
