Lmfao. It's not like Washington blocks shots, too, right? I doubt he would have wrote this article if Washington won.

It's not pretty, that's for sure. It's give and take from a league wide-perspective depending on which game I am watching. A blue collar style is what I respect most in any team that I root for passionately, and the fan base truly respects it out of these guys. On the other hand, I'd rather watch the hockey I am accustomed to growing up--where pucks get to the net and the battles in front between forwards, defense and the goalie make the difference. I'd rather see my team win a 3-2 game, than a 6-5 game. On the other hand, I would probably rather like to watch a random hockey game that is 6-5, rather than 3-2.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. This isn't the reincarnation of the trap system era. This is the system Torts put in place because of the offensive abilities , it lack thereof, of this team. He knew we didn't have enough talented players to be given more leeway offensively. I'm sure defense first is important to Torts, but I can guarantee that if we had more scorers you'd see a much different system. Look at the system he had in Tampa, sure they focused on defense but there was also a lot of offensive creativity.
This is simply Torts understanding the personnel on his team and trying to get the most out of them.
As others have already pointed out the Rangers did forecheck...in fact the 3rd period of Game 7 was their most agressive period with a lead in the 2 series they've played. What I find funny is that when this team was squeaking into the playoffs or missing by a SO point the past few years nobody questioned their shot blocking...this is just a lazy writer.
I bet that guy is a Vancouver fan. The only people you'll see complain about this are fans of rival teams and fans of offensive teams that put next to no emphasis on defensive play and have goalies that are sieves. It's not always pretty hockey but why the hell do I care what other fans think when my team is winning?
I expect this to be a more popular opinion and longer lasting than similar claims against the Devils from pre-lockout.
A team mentality built on sacrifice and hard work will be spun as "killing the game." We will be hated league-wide. Everyone get used to being the bad guys.
The media and fans of hockey already think this. But what people don't realize is their style is as old as hockey itself. It is playoff style hockey. It's just that the Rangers are probably the first team to actually play this style all year long. And with the playoffs, they upped their level of play along with all the other playoff contenders making this style even more pronounced.
The first 2 rounds were awesome. Who wouldn't wanna watch that kind of action, is not a fan of hockey.
It is absolutely not new, just perfected to the point where it can be played all season long.
Skating as hard and as fast as you can, hitting and competing at 110%, giving it everything you have and more, each and every shift, is why hockey is such a great sport.
