I enjoy losses by Brodeur unlike those by any other goalie. It's not just because of the rivalry between the two clubs, it is because of his smug arrogance. He is always that way, so it is only natural to enjoy his losses.
"They're hot. They're blocking pucks. Hopefully we'll be able to hurt a few guys getting one-timers in the foot or their head or something."
- Martin Brodeur

Marty reminds me of the anti-Chipper Jones. He plays off the dynamics of the rivalry very well, but the thing is Marty is a LOT more backhanded than Larry. Larry understands playing the role of "bad guy" while Marty is in reality just a smug *******, who sleeps with his sister-in-law.
By the way, I think this is what I remembered Brodeur saying when he criticized Lundqvist at the awards show, back in 2007
Quote:
Brodeur generously lauds DiPietro for his flair and personality -- "I've had shutouts against them, and at the end of the game he's flipped the puck in my direction, which is cool," he says -- but his tone is distinctly frostier on the subject of Lundqvist. They crossed paths at the NHL awards ceremony last June, but Brodeur says Lundqvist never looked in his direction. Although he attributes that to a European temperament rather than old-time hockey nonfraternization between a Devil and a Ranger, Lundqvist's on-ice style is more problematic for the New Jersey goalie. "The way he plays the game is not something I like too much," says Brodeur, whose 96 career regular-season shutouts were seven short of Terry Sawchuk's record. "Lundqvist is weird."
It's never really that Brodeur says anything downright messed up or really mean, but he just has a way of putting things that, as a fan of a rival, just irks you a little bit.
I think for one, his competitive nature gets him saying these things, and two, he plays up the rivalry a bit

Don't sugarcoat it Levitate. Brodeur comes off as arrogant, condescending, and smitten with himself.

You put it perfectly. It's not against the rules to be a dick, but that's exactly what Brodeur is.
Brodeur on criticism of NYR for blocking shots as bad for game: "I'm the wrong guy to answer that. We were blamed for the trap, when we were successful at it. So whatever brings success is what you need to do. I know it's probably not the most exciting brand of hockey. But it's really effective. And again, they got it in people's heads by doing what they're doing, and they're tough to play against because of that."

I agree to an extent. Every competitive person says stuff like this every once in a while...me and my friend trade insults during pick up games only to laugh about it after. The only thing is Marty thinks he's so above everyone that he doesn't understand he's being an arrogant dick and continuously says **** like this.
