The Secret to the Kings Turnaround

http://nhlnumbers.com/2012/5/14/lak-turn-around

I tend to think increased possession time is the key, but this is an interesting analysis nonetheless. Basically demonstrating that the increased possession time was always there, even under Murray. It's the shorter shot distance overall that's making the difference.

Whatever it is.... Keep doing it!

Maybe less depending on the defense to shoot the puck and more getting it to the forwards. How many times we see DD wind up and miss the net?

SPEED KILLS! And it all starts in our own end with the defensemen moving the puck quickly to forwards who are getting open to receive the pass. This allows the entire 5 man unit to move up the ice with speed backing off opposing defenders. As a result, we can enter their zone and make plays. If a defender does prevent us from carrying the puck into the offensive zone, we can dump it in with confidence that our winger will get to the puck either before or at the same time as the defender because of the speed our winger had developed going through the neutral zone. This is why the Kings are able to have such a great forecheck, create more scoring chances and play as a 5 man unit.

A symptom of a relentless forecheck and turnovers by the opposition's defensemen.

Amen.

Guys like Lewis, King, Nolan, Fraser, Penner, and Stoll getting hard in on the forecheck has made a world of difference to the depth of this team.

We've always had Brown, Williams, Richards hounding the pucks down low, but now we have 4 lines of players capable of doing that.

WEAR DOWN THE OPPONENT.

As a converted believer to math in hockey, it's rare you find an instance where shot quality was the key. Accent that with the fact that the Kings own the puck more than they already did before the Carter trade.

There is no secret.

It's as simple as team gelling and coming together under the right coach.

The secret lies in the poon tang Carter brought from over from the east side.

And now the whole team is benefiting from it.

Amen!
