Hey guys. I know it was a big NO when asked this around the deadline, but is there any chance you guys think Clowe may be moved this Summer after how things played out since then? I'm sorry to bother.

Yes.

And I don't remember it being a big no at the deadline either.

Haven't we have 3-4 SJ-Toronto threads discussing that?

Coaching isn't easy, all joking aside (no pun intended).

A reason why former players are often hired as coaches is because players have shown they can handle pressure, an intense workload, and dealing with other individuals. Coaches need to be able to handle the same; all the hockey knowledge in the world won't help if you can't hold it together or communicate effectively.

I spoke with Bob Berry years ago, who talked about how coaches in the past could out-research or out-technique their opposition. Now, with every hockey tactic having been explored, or once created, quickly deconstructed, and with all the tools coaches have to be able to see exactly how everyone else is playing the game, coachs' roles have fallen to getting execution and adaptability out of their players.

Puck Daddy citing Kevin Kurz:

Kevin Kurz of Sharks Insider confirms that it's "become a virtual certainty McLellan will return" to San Jose next season, and throws scout Dirk Graham's name into the hopper for a potential assistant coach.

From Kevin Kurz:

It’s become a virtual certainty McLellan will return, based on conversations with people in and around the Sharks organization.
This is the shot across the bow to TMac. Fix the PK and GF systems get new ACs that can and will do this. Failure means your job next time we have this discussion...

We really need an experienced NHL ex-player and coach that's had success. Don't see it any other way. I would not be surprised if Ricci or Marchmant are one of them, i'd really rather see an experience coach, etc.

Agree about the tools and tactics. You can add that the video is so intense at the NHL level that it takes guys making the jump from the lower levels a while to adapt to the intensity of video use. I can imagine that former players who retire after the introduction of the video age won't have as hard a time.

To others, I am too loquacious and too old.

Part of it is relationship to and communication with players. Age gap can be a huge hindrance in that regard. Very few overcome that obstacle (coaches don't generally age well).

So TMac is staying and most likely his assistants are gone. This board will be gold if Clowe and Murray aren't traded lol.

Where are people getting the idea that the AC's are gone? I've only read that maybe they'll be replaced, but more likely one will be added.

If that's the case I hope Woodcroft is back to being the video junkie.

The finalists in the west didn't have too many tricks either. Neither did the final four

McLellan isn't stupid. If he doesn't make systematic adjustments to start the year off, he'll be toast.

For now, since he's staying... that makes major roster moves more likely, IMO. It'll be interesting around draft time.

DeBoer and Tippett probably have the most. I don't have them at top of class.

Tank in 2012-2013, get a top-10 pick, and then reload in 2013-2014, and contend in 2014-2015 with these guys and our first round picks this and next season.

Yeah it's unrealistic, but I tried.

This is what happens when I'm procrastinating Spanish. Somebody stop me.

This one's a total massive rebuild:

Dan Boyle and Taylor Doherty for Brett Connolly and a 3rd.
Joe Thornton and Antti Niemi for 5th overall, Nikolai Kulemin's RFA rights, Nazem Kadri, Tyler Bozak, and Matthew Lombardi (cap dump)
Ryane Clowe and Matt Nieto for Patric Hornqvist and Austin Watson
Douglas Murray for 2nd round pick (NYI, MTL, etc)

Adds Kadri, Watson, Connolly, Forsberg/Teräväinen/Galchenyuk (#5 overall), Gaunce/Collberg/Kerdiles (#17 overall), Shore/Severson/Matteau (high-mid 2nd), Sutter/Frk (55th overall) and Zach Stepan (TBL 3rd ) in the prospect pool, along with Hamilton, Abeltshauser, etc.

Sign Brad Stuart @ $3.25M
Sign Adrian Aucoin (or some other depth defenseman) @ $2M
Re-sign Wingels, Demers, Braun, Desjardins, and Galiardi at modest raises
Re-sign Winnik @ $2.5M (or less for term)
Give the reigns to Greiss and Stalock as a tandem

Curious to see who they add as an assistant, as that guy will be the interim head coach when this team comes out in October and November like they did in February and March.
