When there is the jealousy of your team making it farther then other fans teams combined with the added microscope of Main board GDT/Global audiences watching your team every 2nd day & the small % of your fan base that is very arrogant.... well its just a recipe for disaster but even worse: trolling.
Vancouver got it last year mainly, I'm sure one of Philly, Boston, Detroit, Chicago got it the year they were in the Final 4.
These are the days where the "image" of your team & fan base is set by others who don't have a horse in the race.
This is hilarious. You really think that hatred always stems from fear? You can say a lot about it but not quite that.
Anyway on topic: I think it is because it is simply a boring (In their perspective don't hate me. Or fear me. Whatever.) team to watch due to their shot blockyness. Also the fact that they are the highest ranked team. People are cheering for LA because they just took out a #1 and #2 seed as an #8 seed. It's neat when the guy nobody expected wins it. Myself? I'm cheering for Lundqvist even though they beat my Senators. He's just too handsome!
2. They play in New York and the team is over-hyped
2. Obnoxious fans/ large amount of bandwagon fans and fake fans who show up with corporate seats.
3. Ranger fans show up to Devil and Islander games wearing their Ranger jerseys for games that the Rangers are not playing in and look to start fights with the home team fans.
4. Drop streamers and blast fireworks after winning every playoff game.
5. John Tortorella
6.Owned by James Dolan (big *******)
Too tired to think of any more reasons but the list goes on...
1 and 2. The hardest division to play in
Your other 2. It's all money being brought in, all major teams have these, and its eventually how casuals and suits become real die hards
3. This is the exact opposite of your previous statement saying the fans are fake. Looking to start fights is inexcusable though, and I haven't heard of this happening a lot
4. If your team did this, you would love it. There is no reason other than jealously win any fan of any sport wouldn't love a big celebration for a win
5. Sports isn't about attractive personality its about results, maybe you're a fake fan if you don't respect him for his work
6. Don't care about owners, they have minimal input on the actual team
Oh please! The only thing that enables you to say that is because you have no vested emotional interest in the Rangers winning... If your team (whoever your root for) played like the Rangers, there is absolutely zero chance you would ever make such a characterization, and everyone knows it.
Rangers are a hard-skating, physical, shot blocking team that plays a passionate brand of hockey out on the ice. They have to play that way to maximize their effectiveness due to a lack of top end skill up front.
Yes, they're BORING.
Really, really boring.
Don't take it personally, it doesn't mean they're not good or worthy of winning the Cup if they keep winning.
It just means they're boring.
I don't have to be emotionally attached to a team to find a game interesting and fun to watch...
Outside of Buffalo, I really don't care for any NHL team.
But most of the top teams that are usually this far along in the playoffs play an all-around game and have more offensive talent than the teams currently remaining.
However, for whatever reason, this season it's Rangers and LA running the show, and again, I'm not saying they aren't great...
All I'm saying is they're dead boring.
Snoozefest games, haven't seen anything like it in years.
Embrace the Hate. Id rather be in the ECF up 1-0, and being hated on, than not playing right now, thats for sure. Any team thats one of four left standing will get hate, rational or not.
Embrace it! It means we are relevant again, and as a Rangers fan for 25+ years, thats a big deal.
5. Sports isn't about attractive personality its about results, maybe you're a fake fan if you don't respect him for his work
You can still hate a team because you don't like the coach. I think that's a valid reason for disliking the team. If you only liked/hated a team based on them winning then are you a Man U fan? A Yankees fan? The whole "hating" a sports team is kind of silly to begin with so I'm okay with hating teams for slightly silly reasons.
The style they are playing is boring and, at least for Atlantic division fans (and possibly fans of other teams), the majority of the fanbase is extremely irritating.
Some of you more level headed Ranger fans may never get it, cause you're not like that, but it's just how it is.
Yes boring, I agree. But, the Isles play very entertaining hockey, still missing the PO year in and year out.
Because I don't like Brad Richards, Marian Gaborik, Ryan Callahan, Mike Rupp, Brandon Prust, Michael Del Zotto, Artem Anisimov, Dan Girardi, Ryan McDonagh, Stu Bickel, Marc Staal, Ruslan Fedetenko, Brian Boyle, Carl Hagelin, Chris Kreider, Derek Stepan, John Mitchell, Anton Stralman, or Henrik Lundquist. All of them happen to play for the Rangers.
Also:
- Most boring team in the NHL
- Their coach is an *******
- Fans are annoying
- Everyone on these boards overrates their players
- Their arena is an absolute eyesore on TV
- They have ugly uniforms
- Bettman wants them in the finals
- Don't like any of their players
Dubinsky is a *****y little ******
Torts is a whiny piece of ****
Staal is a Staal
Fans are obnoxious for a team that hasn't been comparably relevant for very long.
Avery was a complete and total ****ing ****** (don't care if he's not in the organization anymore, you guys still gave that walking piece of **** a contract)
Rupp is Rupp
Enough reasons for this hate?
God, at least with don't have a player named Hartnell. Please note, I did not even mention Bryzgalov.
The more hate the better. People will always hate on the best teams in the league. Look how many people came out of the woodwork to hate on Boston after last year, calling them dirty goons who can't play hockey. It comes with the territory. Someone also nailed it before. When teams can't beat you and have nothing to critisize you about they revert to calling you boring. It's a typical defense with hockey fans. It means they have run out of things to complain about
I'm indifferent to the Rangers, but the short answer is that every year, there is a popular team to hate. Zero reason for it, just like there was/is zero reason for all the Canucks/Bruins/Penguins hate.
People can try to justify it with lists all they want, but it's the same as any other trend - its popular to do and some people don't like to think for themselves. Not a criticism, it's just the reality of some people's worldview.

What does a riot that happened a year ago have to do with the Rangers? You seem to be unable to handle that alot of people don't like your team. You should stay away from threads like this one if that's the case.
If it's an LA-NY final, I'd find a NY win more palatable, but that isn't saying much. The playoffs are already a write-off as far as I'm concerned. Is it training camp yet?
The Rangers were my mid-season pick to make it to the SCF, so I'm not surprised at all with where they are. The WCF on the other hand is just awful. They are the two worst regular season teams to face off in the WCF since 2003.
