Had a feeling the Devils were going to lose on a broken play like that....lots of sustained pressure on their part but couldn't seal the deal.

Meh. That's tough. If Kopitar elevates the puck there--like he was probably trying to do--he probably catches the pad.

It was a sweet move on that ice though.

Marty would have looked pretty brilliant if Kopitar elevated the puck. Pretty risky play.

This could be good for the Flyers or a curse I feel.
If Homer can't reach the Cap with Suter or Parise, you damn well better believe he'll painfully overpay other players to reach it. $4 million for George Parros!!!

Anyone see Richards tell Pierre he thinks the top 3 players in the world are Crosby, Giroux and Kopitar?

Odd-man or breakaway either way was how I thought that would end. Space was razor thin the entire game. Game ended when someone found just a little bit more. For the Devils, it was the last guy you wanted to find it.

He may not be wrong. Kopi goes under-appreciated out west, especially in the Kings defensive system. That's awesome that he threw Giroux's name in there

This could be good for the Flyers or a curse I feel.
That number is incorrect.

If it's 3.3b flat:
(($3,300,000,000 * 57%) - $90,000,000/30 = $59,700,000 (mid point)
$59,700,000 * 105% = $62,685,000 (mid point with 5% escalator)
$59,700,000 - $8,000,000 = $51,700,000 (floor)
$62,685,000 - $8,000,000 = $54,685,000 (floor with escalator)
$59,700,000 + $8,000,000 = $67,700,000 (ceiling)
$62,685,000 + $8,000,000 = $70,685,000 (ceiling with escalator)

If you add another $50m to the initial $3.3b, it'll up all the final numbers by ~$1m.
If you add another $99m to the initial $3.3b, add ~$2m.

$73.8m isn't possible with the $3.3b figure unless there's a massive escalator agreed upon (~10%).

Edit: I should add the summer ceiling, as it's relevant.
$67,700,000 * 110% = $74,470,000 (without escalator)
$70,685,000 * 110% = $77,753,500 (with escalator)

Which is basically around what everyone has been expecting for a few months now pending CBA negotiations.

I was expecting more, honestly.
It's around 10%, but I thought the new TV contract and growth in some of the larger markets could get it to almost 15% (almost twice as much growth as 2010-11).

I'd guess that they're still very preliminary though, as I don't believe any teams have even had to submit HRR numbers yet (they will next week, IIRC).

Thanks for the complete breakdown. I do feel like it isn't 3.3 billion flat though. So I guess those numbers can be a little more like you showed in your post. 77,753,500 would be excellent news for the Flyers if that were to happen. Pronger, Walker, and all the 2 way contracts that played this year basically take the 10% overage we are allowed, but gives us a good amount to work with

77,753,500-66,973,335=10,780,165 That is our cap space if those numbers are correct for the off season. We can Sign a big named player still and have enough to get a 4th line center. Just LTIR Pronger, waive Walker and Bartulis, then we pretty much get close or below the ceiling.

tough to blame Marty on the winner .... even though normally you cover low - it's just a much tougher save to get it out of the air & odds are most players don't lift the puck

tight game, probably will be easier to see LA win, instead of our division rival, if that were to happen

Kopitar was amazing. As soon as I saw it was him on the breakaway, I relaxed.

Doughty has also elevated his game substantially since Sutter came over. He's not as noticeable because he's a defenceman but he is in Olympic form right now. Nice problem to have, he and Voynov are 22 years old and not even close to their prime right now.

i'm not sure about everyone else, but i never blame the goalie on a breakaway, unless he does something terrible.

the closest thing i could find was this:

BP1974, it was an underhanded jab at some people on this board..

Bryz let in a similar goal like that this year and everyone said 'He should have had his pad on the ice'

OK, that makes sense. I rarely fault a goalie, unless he does something completely odd, on a breakaway.

but no doubt, had that been Bryz, he would have been blamed solely for that goal by the usual Bryz-Bash Crew.

No, not really. That was a breakaway by a great player. Bryz's was a different situation; he deserved some blame on his goal, because it was a situation where lifting the pad didn't make much sense because the shooter was in too close to get it over him if he'd kept it down, if I'm remembering correctly. Kopitar, on the other hand, had enough room to elevate it.
