Why is MSG so poorly lit?

Each ticket for the Sky Bridge will come with a flashlight that the fan will be required to point down towards the ice.

IIRC, Giuliani had them adjust the lights to hide all the graffiti and panhandlers.

i like it, gives its a unique feel plus it feels like a broadway show, darker in the stands and like viewing a movie

yup. Thread isnt about how bad the coliseum is nor did i compare them. i didnt realize my teams inability to come to an agreement on a new arena means im arena-ly challenged and dont know the difference btwn good sightlines and poor ones.

For as bad as the Coliseum is in every other aspect, there are really no bad seats.

Are they knocking things down for this renovation? Otherwise, you can't fix a lot of the problems.

They completely restructured the entire lower bowl this past year. Didn't really change much of the structure though.

Next phase is completely restructuring the upper bowl, which is actually going to be a lot of concrete shifting. Will change the whole look of the building.

Last shift is the stupid bridges and other touch-up stuff.

Not sure when the new scoreboard and lighting system goes in.

I get the whole broadway thing, but they've failed at that since the ice surface is dim too

As an addition to this thread, it's important to note that some of the TV lights that shockingly ARE ONLY USED FOR HOCKEY are behind the ring of banners, so they may still not have their full effect.

It hasn't been confirmed, but many of the concept art/drawings show a new 4 sided scoreboard in place.

If it happens, I'm guessing it's phase 3 with the bridges.

Ill wait til all the renovations are done and check it out again, but ive always felt the main part of a hockey game was being able to see it, and theres a LOT of seats at msg where you miss things.
MSG is only four years older than the Isles' arena. It's only been the oldest in the NHL since the Pens left the Igloo. There's nothing particularly old or historic about it, but the renovations sound like they should spruce things up.

A new lobby too.

The scoreboard, lighting, lobby, ceiling will be the last stage. Next year.

So all the focus is on the ice. I love it. Who the hell wants to see the fans? I want to see the ice.

To tell you the truth, I couldn't tell they were blue either until someone called it on the Ranger board.

I think the lighting is much better than in past years, but it's still a notch below other arenas.

I assumed the lighting was upgraded when they did their recent remodel...?

I feel like we have a thread on this every week. Someone should sticky it.

I don't get the obsession with wanting to see the crowd on tv either. Though I guess when you can have a bunch of posts in the photoshop thread about some girls ****, you want to possibly be able to see the crowd

As a Ranger fan...

In person, I love it.

On TV, I wish the ice was a tiny bit brighter, particularly in the corners.

Interesting how they matched up with Ottawa in the first round. The difference between the night and day, almost literally.

Are they still doing the large walkways still? The one above and near the ceiling?
