I apologize if this has been posted before, I did try to search the forum but came up empty. Did TSN Jets release any rating numbers besides the first pre season game? I would be very curious to know what they are. Thanks!

I was wondering this myself yesterday. TSN's sales dept. should be working on signing up some local sponsors so we don't have to watch Eggies/Schticky ads all night. I'm pretty sure TSN Jets won the male 18-49 demo every night they were on this season. That demo buys stuff, right?
hahaha, totally got sick of seeing the same 3 or 4 commercials on every Jets game. Don't forget about the NoNo Hair removal!
Any word from MTS/Shaw yet as to pricing for the 12/13 Season? Still 9.99 a month but no free preview probably?
I was hoping they would offer it free as part of an existing sports package next year, since Bell will still offer it for free to basic TV subscribers, but I'm not holding my breath on that.
I heard MTS/SHAW lost their shirts on the $10.. Bell really owns the rights. I expect its going to go up... $15-20 /m
Ridiculous, really. Bell must have really gouged MTS/Shaw then, considering TSN Jets is already more expensive than any other optional channel, except for the movie and "porno" channels.

I have been waiting to hear anything about the profit/loss on the Jets Channel. Do you have a link to where you heard this from? I'd like to read it.
In fairness though, with the bottom feeding commercials that were aired, it seemed like they didn't have enough time to get a proper ad campaign done. Now that they have had a full year, they can start attracting new money for the ads.
Come to think of it, $10 a month was/is dirt cheap. Doubling it to $20 a month wouldn't be terrible but I think you will see a drop in subscribers. This whole advertising revenue thing and charging for the channel is a chicken and egg game.

It's not dirt cheap in comparison to other available channels and especially not in comparison to what fans of other teams have to pay at this point in time.

I think Shaw would have the advantage over MTS here as far as negotiation rights go now that Shaw owns Global (Shaw Media now). They have a better bargaining position as far as pricing content to Bell Expressvu if Bell wanted to play hardball again with that channel. Still, I imagine that it wouldn't double in cost. There may be an increase of $2 or $3.
The ratings would be larger if Shaw would offer TSN Jets to viewers like me who live outside the Jets territory.
True, but this one isn't Shaw's fault. They are bound by the rules of the NHL (or is it CRTC?) that they can't broadcast these games outside the region. There are ways of getting the channel outside the region though, but I'm guessing that subject is not permitted on this forum.
I can't believe people actually complained about paying $10.00 to watch the Jets. Seemed goofy that people would be so cheap.
I don't see how it's "cheap" when it's compared to other pay channels, most of which you can get for $1.99 per month each, and broadcast 24/7. Also, almost every, if not all, other Canadian market gets their games for free. Of course $10 per month isn't "expensive" per se, other than in direct comparison to comparable services. That's the issue.

there in lies the rub. especially when your me and wouldn't have tv otherwise. i was so dissapointed when i found out center ice didn't show local games, as i knew i was going to pony up up 50 bucks for basic cable AND anothe 10 just so i coud watch the jets and ignore everything else.
good thing i haggled/complained the pants off shaw and got a super cheap/awsome package now though...

I'd happily pay an extra fee to get TSN Jets instead of NHL CI.
That's completely outside of their control. The rights bell/tsn bought was local rights not national rights. They can't broadcast the games outside of the local region

I was actually surprised this spring when I talked to a lot of people and they hadn't subscribed to the channel last winter.
I'm not going to say it is cheap but I would rather have basic cable plus this channel over getting any of the other specialty channels. They would be what I wound cut first.
Or if I was really desperate I would drink one less beer per game on TV and the channel would be free compared to the previous year well...maybe just one less beer on away games. That would cover the cost.
Back on this discussion hey? Oy.
If you don't like the price, don't buy the channel.
Too much complaining about it, its a business. They should charge what the market dictates people will pay.

That's about as stellar logic as me saying if you don't like the discussion about it, don't read it. It's a perfectly valid question and comparison.
So do you have to pay for the channel to watch the games? I get all the Vancouver games out here for free.
Exactly. But some people are perfectly fine, it seems, with having to pay extra for something every other Canadian market gets for free nowadays. And it's a channel that's only available when a game is on that channel (plus an hour before and after). No other programming on it. Almost every other channel can be had for $1.99 per month if you want them à la carte.

Reason: qep
$10 for one channel that you can only watch 42 nights a year is gouging the fan base. Cable providers are completely gouging their subscribers. Ho hum, I pay $20 a month for NHLCI, but I'm not cheap and can afford it so I won't complain about that. I will though complain about CBC blocking Jets game on NHLCI because CBC is streaming it. That ruined almost every Saturday night for me.
