Jason Williams

Jason Williams signed a contract in Switzerland. He played a few games for Pittsburgh last season but mostly played in the ahl. Has someone see him play in the ahl? Saw he scored a fair amount of points in the playoffs. How do you rate his play? Strength/weakness?
And do you think he could be a good player for europe?

He's slow but has some skill. I believe he's played the point at times on the PP in his career. Haven't seen enough European hockey to know how he'll fit there.

Suffers the pace and physicality of the NHL. Otherwise has some decent qualities. Should be an impact player inSwitzerland.

He'll have trouble in the Swiss league because of the pace. Maybe he'll be able to hold onto the puck more but he won't be able to keep up in that league.

Not a good skater for the North American game, slow and doesn't fight much for the puck. Streaky on offense and rather lazy on defense. These are the things that killed his NHL career. On the plus side he has some real talent on offense, especially a good slap shot (often plays the point on the PP) and a good eye for the open man. And he can play center or right wing. Not someone who can be the top guy on an NLA team but with good linemates he should be productive.

With the bigger ice and a lot of fast opponents I think he will be most useful on the pp. I don't think he will solve any of Ambris problems but we'll see.

Has a nice slap shot. He never had the hustle to make for his bad skating.

Will excel in the "highly competitive" leagues of Switzerland.
See also: can't hack it in the NHL anymore.
