Among all the top players, Iginla has the most heart. That puts him at the #1 spot on my list.

I have Iginla #1. I like him better than Forsberg. Jarome Iginla is a complete player: He can score goals, set up goals, finish a check, fight, reliable in his own end. He is a player in the mold of Gordie Howe and Rocket Richard. He has heart, determination, leadership skills, and humility. If I had to choose one player to start a franchise, he has everything I would want in a player to start from scratch and build around.

Right now, Iginla is probably 2 or 3 in the NHL.

Please... While he comes close Brodeur, and Lidstrom, are two players that I would take over Iginla easily.

Right now? if he is then barely, that's including goalies and defenders, but if I take them out then yes, he is a top 5 forward, so far here's the players in the top 5 in no order (All positions):

Forsberg, Bordeur, Lidstrom, Naslund, and then it's between Sakic, Iginla, Pronger, and perhaps even Kovalchuk.

Keep in mind Bertuzzi and Naslund, Sakic and Forsberg have each other, who does Iggy have to play with? NOBODY he's a one man show.

I'd pick him 1st.

I see a lot people saying Naslund & Forsberg. What did they do at the WC ??

The Sakic, Iginla & Lemieux line was the best in the tournament. Iginla would have liked to score a few more goals but he played well nonetheless. One of Team Canada's best PKer's to be sure.

I'd say Iginla is easily a top 5 player in the NHL, goalies and defencemen included.

Just a comment, this is an arguement used by Flames fans to talk about how great Iginla is, but when anyone calls their team a one man show it is humorous to hear how they all start talking about the depth their team has.

Top 5 - yes.
Best player (#1) - No.

What have you done for me lately, eh? Pronger didn't even play at the WC. He's worthless now then. Strike him off the list!

i completely agree with this

i didn't realize this thread was the top-5 in the WC. if then, Iginla doesn't crack the top-5 or even the top-10. in that case we're looking at players like Modin and Lecavalier.

You won't find many Flames fans that will argue that when it comes to offense, the Flames are mainly a one-man show. But you can't say the team as a whole is a one-man show, that would be ignorant.

Defence & goaltending play a huge part of a team and the Flames have some of the leagues best in both categories.

The Flames are not a one-man team. They may not have very good offensive depth, but they do have a quality group of forwards that play their roles very well. Their defence ranks in the top 5-6 in the NHL, and their goalie is top 5 IMO. Not too many teams have the 3rd & 4th line depth of the Flames, with guys like Simon, Yelle, Clark, Wiemer, Nieminen, Donovan etc....

One guy (cassius) was mocking Iginla's WC performance. I said that if that is held against him, so must Naslund & Forsberg's performance. I am saying the same thing you guys are.

my apologies. however, it's extremely distastful to take a shot at an entire franchises fans in there.

My apologies. I am a bit cranky today. I removed the generalization.

I'm just sick of taking flack from people who never even bothered to read the entire thread. I know Iginla had a not so great showing at the WC and that is why I was defending Naslund/Forsberg in the same way. By his logic, they are not top 5 either because of their performance.

That was a thought provoking post, really made me think. Yet, your little jab at Flames fan doesn't make any sence. The Flames do have pretty good depth, the depth that let them sustain alot of injuries throughout the playoffs yet still put warm NHL bodies into the lineup. Our defence right now is Regehr, Leopold, Lydman, Warrener, Commodore, Montador, and Erikson. All guys who spent time in the NHL last year, Erikson of course was the Blue Jackets best blueliner. Throw in Dion Phaneuf as well. Our good depth still doesn't add to the fact that Jarome Iginla is the lone sure thing on the forward ranks, the only elite player. Sakic has Forsberg, Naslund has Bertuzzi. Iginla has good, but not great players like Langkow and Reinprecht.
