I think Brown got called because of the series of calls that already happened. The refs weren't going to give the Kings a 5 on 3 for pretty much an entire 5 minute major. I don't agree that they should try to "even" up the calls so much. If a team wants to play stupid, then the other team shouldn't be punished for it.

I don't think Doan gets suspended. Watching it a couple of times after the game, Lewis saw him coming and turned into the boards. I'm not totally sure that it was even a penalty, but the major was definitely punishment enough. I didn't really get the impression that the hit was all that malicious.

Hanzal gets two games. That wasn't simply reckless play, it was clearly intentional. He wanted to put Brown on a stretcher, and he's lucky that he didn't or he would be joining Raffi Torres in the "No Hockey in October" club.

Hanzal- 1 game.
They can't just fine Doan though because he's a repeat offender.

I guess they could, but it would make even less sense than the suspensions this playoffs, and that's saying something.

Doan will probably get nothing, Hanzal will get at least one, Smith should get something (just like Miller should have gotten something for his slash on Lucic), not sure on Morris.

Hopefully the referee that called Brown for embellishment is removed from playoff duties.

Lewis turning into the boards I think gives them the leeway to get away with only giving Doan a fine. If Lewis had been facing the glass the whole time then yeah, I'd think Doan and Hanzal would be sitting for game 3.

Honestly I don't think Doan should even get a fine, for that reason. Doan probably should've let up, but Lewis put himself in a vulnerable position. 5 and a game for Doan was plenty.

Doan hit - 5 minutes was appropriate

Hanzel - 2 games in my eyes, other then trying to injury L.A's best player, what was he trying to do?

Morris - Is he not trying to take out Scuderi's knee? Had already played the puck, he should be suspended.

Smith - Classless puke, no suspension to Smith, just the Ref who called the penalty on Brown, Brutal.

Morris' play was just as dangerous and deliberate. He's just lucky he didn't catch Scuderi's knee. I'd like to see Hanzal and Morris ride the pine for at least game 3, but I doubt the NHL has the stones to do it.

I say Hanzal gets 3. He made absolutely no attempt to stop or avoid the hit. He was intent on purposefully driving Brown into the glass. Shanny's been real intent on players who take the extra stride or two, could've clearly avoided it, and didn't.

Telos - It's an automatic major on Doan since Lewis was bleeding (but I don't think he'll get a suspension):
http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2...h-for-a-major/

Quote:
NHL supervisor for officiating in the Blues-Kings series Kay Whitmore says that the referees didn’t initially deem the hit to be violent enough to warrant a major penalty. As for what happened when Pietrangelo was cut and bleeding from the hit, Whitmore says had officials seen it, things would’ve been different.

“There was no visible blood. If it was running down his forehead or his cheek, it’s automatic. It’s a major game-misconduct."

Does Martin Hanzal have a history? He should got a game or two. Doan should get nothing. Major and the misconduct was more than enough and he shouldn't have even got that. I didn't see the Morris play. I doubt Smith gets anything either

Doan shouldn't get anything.
Hanzal better get at least one. He knew what he was doing. I'd hope for 2-3, but I think he'll get one.
Smith...who knows what he will get, but he certainly hurt Brown. Can he be fined? If so, he'll likely get that. Of course, I ****ing hate Smith, so I wish he'd be burned at the stake.
I honestly think Morris was the dirtiest one, but I doubt it even gets a second look, unfortunately.

2 for Hanzal

Nothing for Doan, Smith, Morris... none of those were anything more than in-game penalties.

2-3 for Hanzal
Doan is a toss up because of his history. I hope 0.
Smith a fine or 1. Clear intent to injured. It shouldn't matter if he is a goalie.

Doan: Lewis turned his back very late. Doan was committed already to the check. Clearly no intention from Doan to injure the player.
Final verdict: The call in the game should be enough.

Morris: It appears that he stuck out his knee. Watching it in slow-mo makes it seem even worst. This one I'm unsure of as it could've just maybe been Morris lining up for a hit on Scuderi and completely mistimed it.
Final verdict: I'd say a fine $2500

Smith: It's a clear slash, he got a penalty for it. What more does anyone else want? He didn't grab his stick and go for a 2 handed chop to try and break the guy's legs. People should relax, players do this to each other regularly and get called for slashing.
Final verdict: The 2 minute slashing is enough. Brown getting called for diving on the other hand.... Mind=blown.

Hanzal: Hanzal knew it was Brown, was facing the #s the whole time, dirty play, clear attempt to injure. Final result, Brown was ok.
Final verdict: Should be at least 1 or 2 games suspension. More if Brown would've suffered an injury.

In the Playoffs with Shea Weber mode activated, Nazem Kadri sucker punches Alfredsson giving him a concussion. (this felt good)

1 Game

After careful consideration, Nazem Kadri has been suspended for 1 game for his actions on Daniel Alfredsson. In reviewing this play, we also took into consideration that it's the playoffs.
Nice. I'll take that.

So do you suspend Smith? I highly doubt there will be any supplementary discipline to Mike Smith.

A one handed slash like that will not injure a player.
I'm a goalie myself, when being screened at times I do chop at a player's legs to get them off, frustrate them, or hope they turn around and retaliate.
When I'm frustrated vs a certain player, it has happened in occasion I chop at their leg harder to hurt them a little.
Maybe what Smith did was a bit more on the excessive side as he was frustrated more than anything, but apart from a bruise, that slash won't cause any more damage.
