Shot blockers getting injured is actually a major downfall to our collapsing system. Callahan and Drury both broke hands blocking shots last season. It got to the point where our equipment manager installed an extra kevlar piece on the top hand of all the Rangers' gloves.
For the people that are acting like the Rangers shot-blocking system is unbeatable and is killing hockey, our shot blockers getting injured is actually a huge chink in the armor. It's a downfall in the system.
Again, I see no problem with what Brodeur said. To be quite honest, it may even be a decent strategy. I'm just surprised he said it to the media. Generally comments like that stay in the locker room.
Well, as long as the devils won't be targeting upright/crouched defenders with pucks to the head, I don't have a problem with it. But if they go down slip and slide style, I have no problem with the devils aiming for kidneys, groins or ribs. That's old time hockey.

I am really trying to ignore it all and enjoy the games but it's difficult with so many lunatic posters (on both sides) that get everyone so riled up. My best friend is a Devils fan and we are always civil with each other and never talk trash. The internet brings out the worst in people though.

Oh totally...when he was screened on the first one right? Oh wait, if the tables were reversed and it was Lundpads, you'd be defending him. And yet its horrible for when we do it with Marty.
I can think of exactly one instance this year where a Ranger blocked a shot with his face. I don't remember who they were playing but Mitchell took a slapshot directly to the face I believe toward the end of the third. It was in 2011. The Rangers know how to block shots, they've been doing it all year. If now, all of a sudden, they start getting blasted in the face, it screams intentional.
That said, I think it's probably just Brodeur being his typical douchy self. I really don't think there's any player on the Devils who would do something like that and from the comments from Devils players I read, they sound like they're at least a little embarrassed that it was said to begin with.
If they wanna block shots so much, shoot as hard as you can. Try to keep it a few inches off the ice. It will break ankles, or be able to be tipped easier.
Because it really isn't as bad as you're making it out to be. One, if you actually watched the interview, you'd recognise that he was saying it facetiously. Two, he's only saying something that is well known already: guys will get hurt blocking shots, and it's to the Devils advantage if they do.
What about that justifies the level of outrage you're manufacturing?
This is nothing new. I remember Ron Low (or Kevin Lowe), the Oilers' coach at the time, saying the same thing during one of numerous Dallas-Edmonton series in the late 90's. Dallas, especially Craig Ludwig and Richard Matvichuk, was throwing themselves in front of every shot that series.
