Now that the Habs have a shortlist with Patrick Roy nowhere to be found, perhaps will he go Washington's way...

Rumor that the Jordon Kitts guy is learning "Everybody loves somebody sometime" and "Baby it's cold outside" to welcome the new coach on opening night..

Guess it's better than The Cars' "You're All I've Got Tonight"

Man, this sarcasm on the internet is ridiculous.

"Ya because _______ did so well with ______."

It should be an icon to click on because people say it so much.

Anyway, not really picking on you G3. I am merely pointing out the dangers of sarcasm in case anyone cares.

I mean, disregarding his performance as Phoenix's coach, if he doesn't get entangled with losers like Ted and McPhee, why did he get entangled with the losers in Phoenix?

Wasn't Gretzky's agent the GM when he came in? I didn't follow PHX closely--I think they've been short on cash for a long time. Gretzky to PHX might well have been a mistake but I don't know what promises were made to him when he came on. He might hate coaching/GMing/the new NHL. Do you know?

But we do agree that Ted and George are losers.

Mathradio just goes around to other teams' boards and tries to convince them they need Patrick Roy to be their coach. He did it to the Avs board for most of the season.

Has Gretzky even been considered for a coaching job since Phoenix? I know he hasn't had one for whatever reason... that's a moderate to major red flag to me.

The PHX ownership situation was a mess. I believe Gretzky would build a winner as a GM if he wanted to spend his life that way. I don't see him wanting to coach, really. Zero chance of it happening in WSH.

Not too many great coaches, y'know, in just about any sport, that were players as great offensively as Gretzky was. I have to think there's some reason for that. I could spit out a theory or two but I won't bother.

I don't know who to get, but I'll vote against Gretzky just because he was the best forward ever. I bet he knows this too and doesn't want to coach anymore. People just can't do the things he did. It's got to be frustrating.

He was so good. Whenever he decided to create a goal, he did it. Though Langway and the Caps used to stifle him pretty well at the Cap Centre as I remember. But yeah, he's not going to coach here.

My guess is that Ted and George are bickering about who to bring in to coach. The Caps brand is looking really lame right now.

Look at Football, doesn't seem like too many great quarter backs go and be HCs or even offensive coaches, though it seems great defensive line players do end up being defense coaches.

I think great players can make great assistants.

People though Hunter would understand coming in, instead he came in and said he likes how Beagle plays but not Ovechkin because he doesn't understand Ovechkins train of thought.

anyone suggesting gretzky as a legit hire didn't watch a single game of his time in phoenix. he was clueless. love the guy but often the best players make the worst coaches.

‏@EdFrankovic: Darren Dreger said on NHL tonight that #Caps taking time with coaching search, hoping to find long time coach. I applaud that approach.

I assume that means a coach that will stick around for a long time, not a coach that's been around a long time. Sullivan and Cooper seem to have that sort of potential...maybe MacTavish. Maybe Stevens if he's learned the right lessons since Philly.

They've got nothing on...

Who could possibly be more "long time"?

Can anyone tell me, why he is constantly being mentioned?

He had one fluke season.
