I smell conspiracy here that it looks like most HF Boarders here are ending up with Steven's. I blame some hard coded Japer's Rink bias .

Jon Cooper.

I pray George doesn't take the questionnaire and end up with French.

I don't disagree with that at all. I was just saying I didn't agree with the specific statement about who'd been linked to the Caps job.

@DarrenDreger: There won't be any coaching announcements prior to the Draft, but Mike Haviland and Adam Oates are in the mix in Washington.

Much speculation of Oates previously but this is a little more definitive. Not sure what to think. I'd be confident in his PP coaching and ability to make the players more aware offensively but the lack of head coaching experience is a tough one.

Not only did I hate Oates as a player/person but I would probably hate him as a coach

There really is just no way to know.

He always comes off as awkward and strange to me, but who knows. Like Langway said, you would have to expect improvements in their offensive game and PP work, which is pretty important. He also does seem like kind of a dick, which I think is a good thing as long as it's not taken too far. Hasn't he been credited as an important influence on Kovalchuk?

I am more concerned about George's player moves (and lack thereof) and vision for the teams style, than any coach he may bring in. For the coach may agree to run his system for all we know.

Maybe an offensive minded guy like Oates is the best that bored Caps fans can hope for. No surprise here a former cap is in the running.

I agree. There needs serious tweaking with this lineup

I think we already have a good idea of what sort of style they want to play, a more balanced and up the ice game. Clearly the forwards have to be upgraded in order to play a more aggressive up-tempo style. Failing to do so is likely to lead to them playing close to the vest and passive once again out of necessity.

By more balanced I assume you mean a mix of Russian Roulette and lacrosse for Liberation and his bros?

Chicago Sun-Times piece on Haviland.

Fun fact: Haviland was one of Cassidy's assistants in '99-00 in Trenton (ECHL).

Per the Twitter:

Nick Kypreos ‏@RealKyper

#SNdraft Adam Oates interviewed again this week for #Caps coaching job. At this point in time he seems the logical choice in for that market
