jarek went ahead and sold his books to a research buddy through the ATD section, so I may as well do the same.

If you act fast, you can get a lot of books at a good price and save a ton on shipping by getting them all sent together.

special: order 10+ books and get the same percent off your order before shipping. So 20 books = 20% off! (max 30%, no limit on # of books)

-------------------------------------------

As you know, I recently came across a lot of hockey literature. I kept what I could use, and the rest I am selling at very reasonable rates to my online acquaintances with similar interests.

Below is a list of all the books, as well as pictures of the spines of all titles for sale. I will update the list of books as they are bought, but the pictures may still show books that are sold, so look for the title in the list.

I will list a summary of the book when warranted; otherwise, I will just provide a link to an abebooks.com search for the book. (abebooks.com is the world's largest used book marketplace, where thousands of sellers list over 100,000,000 books) This will allow you to get more info about the book including number of pages, year produced, and usually a summary. Most importantly, you will be able to see what prices other sellers are asking for the book in question. (since these are being listed with efficiency in mind, sometimes other books will show up in the search link too. Make sure you know what you're looking at)

I will bold anything that is "wrong" with the book; this can include it being in rough condition, a hardcover that is missing its dustjacket, or the book being printed in a language other than english. Also, because I hate accidentally buying a mass market paperback, I will bold that as well. Some of the MMPs have a trade paperback or hardcover version out there that you could look for. Others are only available in MMP form. It's up to you to determine if you want to "settle" for a cheaper MMP version of a book or look elsewhere for a better copy. All the MMP books are pictured together, to avoid confusion as much as possible.

My goal is to unload my spare books as quickly as possible and to provide my information-hungry colleagues with the books they want at the best prices. With that said, these did cost me a fair chunk of change and I plan to sell at a price that is fair to both you and I. You will notice that the price I select is often close to the lowest you will see on abebooks.com, but not quite the lowest. The reason I can do this and still give you the best total price on your book(s) is two fold: First, a seller who is selling any one particular book very cheaply probably doesn't have another book you want. Or at least not very many. I have all the books you want! Shop around; you will easily save money by buying as many books from me as possible, as opposed to getting a few here and a few there, simply because the more you get shipped together, the better.

In addition to that, the sellers on abebooks.com have shipping rates that are decent, but still result in a tidy profit for them. (for example, an average seller may charge $8 for the first book and $4.00 for each additional - which would cost $84 for 20 books). I will charge only actual shipping, plus $1-2 for the price of materials. An average assortment of 20 books, sent to a location in Canada, would cost about $30 to ship. I just sent 50 books to a friend in Canada for only $60. So you'll save money that way too.

In any case, if you feel that you can get a book, or a certain group of books somewhere else on the internet for cheaper, simply show me the link with a breakdown of what you’d be paying there, and I will beat the price by 15%.

Here they are. All prices in Canadian Dollars.

This one is completely gone at the spine, and stuck to the book at the front and back. The $10 listing at abebooks says the same thing, and the $76 listing has no DJ. Very poor dustjacket. http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/Sear...e+bruins&sts=t

I have/have read almost everything there that I'm interested in. A couple of exceptions:

For the Fischler book, I might be interested depending on how much pre-NHL coverage there is in the book. It was published in 1999 and claims to cover 100 years, so I'd be interested in how much they have about the AAHL. Is it more than lip service and a biography of Hobey Baker?

I'm definitely interested in the Fitsell book.

Iain, I'm really sorry, but I think both of those are gone. I thought I updated my list to include all sales I've made already, but I think I missed the biggest sale - the one to VI. He got both of those ones, IIRC. I will update the list.

As for the Fischler book, it has been an ok resource, but I can't say for sure about the Pre-NHL stuff. As an NHL resource for player quotes in ATDs and MLDs, it hasn't delivered as expected.

Oh yeah. The best $500 I ever spent! I have done a lot of hockey history reading this year, especially over the winter, and would gladly make the texts available Iain when I'm finished.

Fischler's Metro Ice is a gem. Pictures from the 1880-1890s, lots of pics actually, a history of the St. Nick's and Brooklyn Crescent teams, New York Athetic Club. Cyclone Taylor was impressed at the profitability of hockey there: "A good pro could make between $1,200 and $1,500. Right after my first visit to New York, my salary went up to $5,260." There's Bullet Joe Simpson and Billy Burch info., the Rangers-Americans rivalry, thriving amateur hockey in NY, etc.

There's a good two-page bio on Lester Patrick, including a half-century old poem about him:

'Twas in the spring of twenty-eight
A golden Ranger page,
That Lester got a summons
To guard the Blueshirt cage.

Chabot had stopped a fast one,
A bad break for our lads,
The Cup at stake - and no one
To don the Ranger pads.

"We're cooked," lamented Patrick,
"This crisis I had feared."
He leaned upon his newest crutch.
And wept inside his beard.

Then suddenly he came to life,
No longer halt or lame.
"Give me the pads," he bellowed.
"I used to play this game."

Then how the Rangers shouted.
How Patrick was acclaimed.
Maroons stood sneering, gloating,
They should have been ashamed.

The final score was two to one.
Old Lester met the test.
The Rangers finally won the Cup,
But Us has since confessed.

"I just spoke up to cheer the boys,
"I must have been delirious.
"But now, in reminiscence,
"I'm glad they took me serious."

McAllister – Hockey Heroes - $25
Johnson – The Bruins In Black and White 1924-1966 – $8.
Selke – Behind the Cheering - $5
Siemiatycki - The Hockey Card - $2.
Stanley - Blood, Sweat & Bears - $2.
Brownridge – The Moccasin Goalie - $2
The Red Machine is indeed gone. I missed that one in the list.

You will definitely enjoy these, particularly the McAllister and Selke books.

Hi. My dad has some old hockey books he'd like to sell. Is there a market for them? I was just wondering, since you listed some. I don't have the titles myself but will be able to get them in a couple of weeks.

Thanks!

As long as they are relatively cheap, they'll get picked up pretty quickly around here.

My Dad's hockey books

Dad's hockey books.docx

I'm not sure how this will work, but it seems i've attached a list of my dad's hockey books that he wants to sell. The prices included are the original prices. Do people make offers on the books - is that how it works? If anyone is interested, please let me know.
