Semin headed to free agency

@CraigCustance:

Spoke w/Alexander Semin's agent. He's headed to free agency: "His role at 28 (yrs old) is unacceptable...he wants to be a full-time player."

Doesn't sound happy with what Hunter did this playoff run.

Craig Custance ‏ @CraigCustance
Gandler says focus for Semin is NHL, not KHL: "He did the best he could under the circumstances and he earned his right to be a free agent."

If he wants so badly to be a full-time player, perhaps he should consider giving full-time effort.

Funny. Every year it's the same thing. While the caps are in the playoffs, everyone is oohing and aahing about how hard Semin is playing, "ooh, he's blocking Chara slapshots, ooh, he's backchecking really well, ooh, it seems he's finally turned the corner/team player/we were wrong about him"

Then, the SECOND the team gets eliminated, all of that goes out the window and people instantly revert back to their mindless stereotypes.

Same true for Ovechkin to a lesser extent but he at least gets a little respect.

Wonder if the new Capitals head coach can convince him otherwise?

That opens up a huge hole for the Capitals, I'd be extremely worried as a Caps fan.

It seems like just as they solve an issue in goaltending, top 6 depth will become a new one.

Really hope he finds a way to Detroit. Playing with Datsyuk would be fun to watch. That or he could troll Washington/everyone and sign with Pittsburgh

How are his playmaking skills? I know he has an unreal shot, but we already have two guys on that second line who like to shoot first.

I see it as addition by subtraction for the Caps. 6mil for this guy? I know its a weak UFA field, but there are better options for spending that kind of dough. As talented as Semin is, he'll always be a dog.

Detroit won't land Parise, so they'll go for the consolation prize that will pay off in a big way and give Datsyuk a dangerous sniper to setup while Franzen or Bertuzzi handle all the dirty work along the boards and around the net.

All he cares about are stats and money, clearly.

Highly doubt he goes to a contender where there is a chance that he doesn't get top 6 mins if he's struggling.

What makes you say that? And Caps fans is there any truth in stories that Semin and Varlamov don't get eye to eye.

Detroit would fit him good. Finally RH forward who can actually shoot the puck.

Despite all the negative crap surrounding semin, I would love to see LA make a serious push for him if they can't land parise.

Semin could play alongside loktionov on the third line and with kopitar and Richards on the pp.

Pretty sure he would usurp Burrows from the Sedin line.

Doesn't have the best vision for creating plays out of nothing but if he knows what pass he wants to make he can absolutely thread the needle and sauce it tape to tape across half the rink.

Semin isn't going to sign with a team to play third line minutes. That's why he's leaving Washington.
