Smaby had an 'A'. I have a little to add to Paul's remarks after I finish watching the third.

I'll try to keep a tally of my thoughts to expand on what Paul said:

- The biggest difference I notice between this season and last is the speed. This is a very fast team.

- Vatanen had a nice hit behind the net in the first.

- Etem is far more active on the backcheck than he was last year. This was one of the things that worried me most about his stint in Syracuse.

- Guenin had a nice stint in the second where he nullified a player on the PK.

- Brittain had a nice strip on Faulk(?) while on the PK.

- I thought Holland was a bit more noticeable than Paul did, but he really didn't show up much in the offensive zone. He also disappeared in the third.

- The first time I noticed DSP was in the late 2nd, and it was when he was coming off of the ice.

- Andersen did something that I've never seen a goalie do before. He came out for a puck that he thought was going to slip out of no man's land. It stopped just short, so he shielded the puck with his body while he waited for a teammate to retrieve the puck. I like this guy. Should be a nice goaltending duel.

- Etem had a big hit in the third.

- I've noticed Devo more in the third. I think I might notice Palmieri more if I had audio, but I haven't noticed anything major, yet.

- Some nice passing between Devo, Vatanen, and Palmieri on KP's goal.

- Vatanen looks like Tyrion Lannister when standing next to our bench.

Well one preseason game doesnt make a season, couldnt tell much on the worst camera coverage I ever saw, but I guess that the one thing I did see was a lack of physical play by alot of the D, forwards that didnt move the puck enough, and a PP that is going to have a tough time. ( I dont think that will change for a long time). dont think this team is going to be as good as last years Championship team, I hope they at least make the playoffs;

There wasn't any chance of that happening.

Not a Fair Comparison

Last year's Admirals were a once in a lifetime experience. And to compare any team to them is simply not fair. I am perfectly willing to judge this team on its own merits. If they make the playoffs I will be happy. From what I have read so far, they play like this all season I'll be a happy camper.

With the lockout, this whole season is going to be a bit of crapshoot, anyway. The goaltending and defense should remain intact, if the lockout ends, but the forwards could see some major turnover, as part of our rebuilding project is sitting down there.

Thanks for the reports guys. Definitely looks like Norfolk will have a talented team, at least as long as the lockout goes. I do hope that we see some progression from Holland though. His development is critical for the future success of the team, possibly the most of the forward prospects IMO. I don't think asking for a PPG or PPG+ season is asking too much from him.

Going PPG should be a fair expectation. He's surrounded by more firepower, and he has the top center spot. It won't mean he's a bust if he misses that mark, but at that point you have to start looking at guys like Rakell, Karlsson, and Wagner as the next best hope.

I don't think I made it clear in my post, but I felt Etem had the best game amongst our forwards. I think DSP and Palmieri feel like they're just showing up to punch the clock; waiting for the lockout to resolve itself.

Just finished watching the game. Was pretty much what I expected from a preseason game. Guys trying to figure out their line mates. All in all the effort looked good.

Thank you Paul and Exit Dose.

Paul, I, and I'm sure everyone else too, was glad of the all the work put into analyzing each player. So thank you that much more for doing this as some of us can't see it. And Exit Dose, thanks for sharing how the team is much faster this year than the one last year.

It's still pre-season, but is the not 100% effort by Palmieri and DSP because they think they've accomplished much because they've been at the NHL level already? And if so, is that type of play correctable with the coaches in Norfolk? (Maybe why Palmieri and Lasch switched position during the third?) Thanks in advance.

score was 3:0, then 3:1, then 4:1 and now 4:3 (we`re trailing)

*first goal was scored by Holly (Etem and Devo with an assist)
*second one by McArdle (unasisted)
*third goal by Wagner (IDK who (if) asisted)

Good to hear Holly and Devo getting points after last night where they were reported as sloppy.
Great to hear that Wags scores too. Some Ads fan mentioned that he could very well be playing on a higher line. Nice to hear that knowing that he just came from colledge.

the game shoud soon be over.

Cosineau, who was changed by Bobkov.
PS
i`m getting info from http://www.facebook.com/NorfolkAdmirals?ref=stream

PPS
putting all goalie situation together, how they looked (reported) yesterday etc, i`m sure we can pretty well say that (as expected), the goalies are in this order: Andersen, Bobkov, Cosineau (A-B-C goalies, as JabbaJabba said :laugh).
Imo yesterday coaches gave time to Bob and Andersen to check out who`s better. Looks like Andersen got the job (judging by reports and goalies in this game), and now Cosineau let in 3 or 4 goals and was changed by Bob, with who the team seemed to pick it up.

EDIT

the game ended.

Final score: Charlotte 4, Admirals 3. Shots: NOR 35, CHA 33. Both teams finish preseason 1-1-0-0.

It was Cousineau, he allowed 4 goals.

Bobkov replaced him.

Regarding admiralszone.net, I've been trying to take a look at the place for some insight. Unfortunately, every link I click on that page (including "register"), I receive an error message saying "Sorry Guest, you are banned from using this forum!". Anybody have an idea? Area restrictions?

... and no, I've not been there before.

Admirals look more than ready for the new season.
Hard to do better than last year though... (and also, keeping the name, but the actual franchise being rebooted doesnt help...)

Did you saw the game?

I did not, but judging by stats, i wouldn`t call it ''more than ready''. For example, 0 from 4 on the PP this game and let in a goal on their only SH stint.
They look fine, but there are areas that needs to be worked on.
