First of all congrats to Norway on great torunament.

I read in WC thread that Roy Johansen will retire after Olympics. Why ? Too old, will sign somewhere else ? Some other reason ?

Well i think it has to do with the fact that hes been our NT coach for more then a decade. He wants to try something new for a change He also said that he was tired of being underdog....

Its rly sad that he will retire, because he has been great He was hired in 2001 and back then our team sucked

Well hopefully we will get a good replacement. Im kinda hope for a czech coach, because we need a defense first system and the czechs know how to play defensive hockey

Yeah or a Swiss style of disciplined defence!
Anyways I see that you cannot decide for Sochi whether you want Thoresen as center or as wing? So what's your thought about his playing position options?

Well I want Skrøder and Zuccarello on our first line and then Thoresen has to play center. The problem is that Thoresen is alot better as a LW

It's ironic that czechs know how to play defense, but don't know how to develop great defensemen, at least the past couple of years.

If that's the case, then put him on the second line and make 2 lines good. Moving players from their natural position has failed many times + the 1st line needs somebody to defend anyway.

Do you want a job as coach for the Danish NT?

you are right. it was this year's Denmark what I was thinking about when typing that. And Russia, which had 2 offensive stars from the beginning (Malkin, Datsyuk), but didn't think about putting them together and it worked perfectly.

Well Thoresen plays center for SKA st petersburg, so he can play center. And he is strong defensively. I would rather have one rly strong line, then two okey lines. Lets face it. Norway got 3 quality forwards (Thoresen, Zuccarello and Skrøder). Also our 2nd line is good. Spets - Bastiansen - Olimb has played together for years. It would be stupid to make changes on a good line. So im almost 100% sure that our coach will go for Skrøder - Thoresen - Zuccarello. Zuccarello will be the creative guy on that line. Skrøder will be the sniper and Thoresen will be all over the ice

So Thoresen is a good center, but he wont score as much as usual

Lets just have a look at our roster. This would probably be our roster for the olympics. I dnt think our coach will do many changes, because this team (without zuke) rly played well this WHC.

Skrøder (offensive player) - Thoresen (two way center) - Zuccarello (offensive)
Spets (defensive) - Bastiansen (two way center) - M. Olimb (offensive)
Røymark (defensive) - Hansen (defensive) - Holtet (duracell rabbit)
Martinsen (grinder) - Forsberg (defensive) - Rosseli Olsen (offensive)
Ask (defensive)

As u can see our first line will be the scoring line. Just like in Vancouver, when Vikingstad scored 4 goals, Thoresen got 5 assists and Zuke got 1 goal and 2 assists. Our first line was our scoring line. We dnt have enough depth to spread our snipers.

Well I mean we allrdy play czech hockey, so we should continue with that. The best way to do that is to hire a czech. I dnt want our team to play crazy banzai attack hockey

Edit: Czech hockey is in my opinion a defensive style of hockey. Its about controlling the mid zone, blocking shots and go for counter attack. Thats the way we played this WHC.

This looks good, but you also need to think about some reserve players in case somebody would be injured. It almost never happens that everybody is ok.

Well we got several

Ask (has played in Sm league, SEL and DEL) Ask is a rly good PK/PP player and he ended up with 10 points this whc. So he should be a great reserve.

We also got Ylven. Big grinder. 1.90 cm/100+ kg (he has played about 200 games in SEL)

Ken andre olimb (sel-2) Small technical forward. Some rumors claim that he will go to the SM league. Lets w8 and see

Dahlstrøm (sel 2) Big player about 183 cm/101kg (source eliteprospects). He had a great first season in sel 2. Scoring 13 goals and 7 assists in 50 games.

Kristiansen (SEL) A young and talented player. Atm he is a grinder, but he might develop and become a goal scorer.

Edit: We also got a couple of talents in NA. Olden (drafted by leafs) is playing in OHL and hopefully he will develop into a great player Also Winkler is a talented player. Both of em are 1.90 + cm and should be useful!

Maybe the czech system work because it's so ingrained in the hockey culture. It's second nature, so everyone knows it on the backbone. Even without star defenders it makes players much less prone to make mistakes, and that is sure a recipe for success. Seeing the czech this year was like a deju vue back to the 80's.....fantastic to have a formular that still traps team after team though everyone should know it
When the czech finally lost in the playoffs it was to the slovak playing exactly the same (so again a winnning formular). It took super players like Malkin, Datsyuk, Ovetchkin and Siomin to bring the slovaks down, but the success of czech & slovaks this WC shows the value of the system (even with fairly few star players on their roster)!
