Top 10 Superpests

Hey, I started a superpest thread on the prospects board, and I thought of a top-10 list of superpests in the NHL.

10) Vaclav Varada
9) Jarkko Ruutu
8) Ville Nieminen
7) Jordin Tootoo
6) Matthew Barnaby
5) Matt Cooke
4) Tyson Nash
3) Sean Avery
2) Steve Ott
1) Darcy Tucker

Thoughts? Did I forget anybody?

Esa Tikkanen for all-time. He could back it up too.

Matthew Barnaby is the best, no way the 6th. He gets under opponents skin and can score, the perfect 3rd liner

Ruutu should be well ahead of Matt Cooke. Cooke is easily the better player, but in terms of pure pest power, there's few that can compare to Ruutu.

add steve webb to the list somewhere, and i doubt Tucker should be #1, since he hasn't been an agitator the last couple years.

I don't know if he qualifies as a top ten but Brian Gionta does a pretty good job pissing the other players off.

Cooke is changing his game from pest to a very good two way forward. Cooke proved he can play on a scoring line, and still play a very good defensive game, so I wouldn't call him a pest no more. Ruutu on the other hand

Claude Lemieux and Theo Fleury would compete for the all-time #1 spot.
However, my favorite story is from the '94 playoffs, when Tikannen reportedly kissed one of the players on the other team during a stoppage of play, and a fight broke out

I read in a THN survey of random players that Tyson Nash is apparently the best current pest. This might be a year old though.

Yeah, but Cooke is still really annoying to play against.

I don't know. Avery might win now. After one year and all the crap he's talked. He's got enough people gunning for his head. I remember when he said I have to annoy the person enough but avoid getting Bertuzzied.

Vaclav Varada needs to be higher on that list.

Avery is over-rated as a pest.

Too many bad, bad penalties. He led the league in minor penalties last year. I know of a few Kings game's where he totally lost it, and put his team in a bad position.

I agree. But with his skills he's up and coming.

Holmstrom could go up there since he is a pest to the goalies and defensemen....

Avery is by far my #1 pick. The guy talks so much trash and goads players into penalties. For instance, at last year's preseason in Vegas, he goaded Forsberg into 3 penalties, including a fight! I think it was Battaglia who was the 3rd man in after Forsberg jumped Avery. If he could take Forsberg out 3 times in a game and take him off his game, Avery is the #1 pest in my opinion.

Avery is my #1, Dallas plays LA 6 times every year and every time he makes it hell for everyone, dirty hits, trash talking, and he scores too!!, can't stand him.

Either Nash and J. Ruutu are at the top of my list, Nash is constantly running at the mouth while he's out on the ice

Doig was a thorn in Carolina's side all year after his hit on Adams...during their next game, the 'canes were out for blood and doig suckered them into taking bad penalities all night and costing them the game eventually

Can't forget Ulanov either. Remember when he took out Lindros every game when TB played the Flyers in the playoffs that one year? I remember he pissed Lindros off so bad when he hit Dan Lacroix, Lindros and a couple Flyers confronted Ulanov in the parking lot after the game...
