Rob Scuderi

How much value has Rob Scruderi brought to the Kings. They obviously have a good lineup and a great goaltender but the guy plays over 20 minutes a night and is on his way to playing for another Stanley Cup. Did we underate his value and what a player like him brings to a team?

Scuderi's always been excellent in the playoffs and he's a legit top 4 guy who can play on the top pairing with the right guy, having Quick behind you helps a ton though. He's very similar to Michalek but maybe slightly more physical, he's playing at the best of his ability unlike Michalek did in the playoffs.

I prefer Michalek, thanks. A slightly less physical Scuds who can actually move the puck.

No, we didn't underrate him. Having a goalie play well behind you makes all the difference.

Scuds is too often romanticized around here.

Have you watched him play in these playoffs? I will agree that Quick is very good but he plays over 20 minutes a game against the other teams best players. I really think he deserves some credit. Guys like him that just go out every shift and play solid defense just don't get much hype. I hope the Kings take it all and win the cup. I'm always a big underdog fan. It takes all of PIECES to fit into the puzzle and win a Stanley Cup. It looks like he could be a winning PIECE again.

He has developed a much better first pass than when he was here, a lot less bang it off the glass than I remember.

Michalek could be just as good if not better if the team around him played a defensive game. Defense is a team game & when your team is bad at it every player is going to look bad.

Way to many people remember Scuds body of work here instead of just focusing in on the finished product. You could always see he had good defensive sense and would block a puck with his face to win. Once his skating got better his game blossemed and IMO his hand skills were getting better too. He made an OK outlet when given time. Also loved the Scuds hip check during his last year with the Pens.

I like Zib but IMO Scuds is the better player.

I think they're both pretty equal and also Michaleks lack of physical play this past season was most likely due to his injured hip.
I think this upcoming year Michalek will show that he's still a valuable asset to the team ala Scuds is in LA.

Why are people assuming that Dan Bylsma ever really liked Rob Scuderi as a player?

because he averaged more minutes under Bylsma while he was here than under Therrien. But honestly, that tidbit won't stop people from blaming everything including cancer on Bylsma.

Then again, Bylsma only coached him for a few months, so it's hard to infer much.

A lot of people believe that Gill Scuderi was only the disposable third pairing when they won the cup but icetime proves that a myth too.

That's one of the reasons i'd hate to see Bortuzzo and Strait go. I think they could be just as good together and they are both still young and cheap enough to keep. It's not going to happen over night but I think if they start the season out with the big club, baring injuries, they could be a very good shut down pairing come playoff time.
