You mean besides McDonagh a couple years down the line?

I would sign Parise and move Gaborik in a heartbeat. Gabby is marketable, Dubinsky is also trade-able. Parise was born to be a Blueshirt. Make it so, Slats.

If the goal is to upgrade offense, how exactly does swapping Parise and Gaborik do that?

Yes, exactly one year after McDonagh hits RFA.

Good point. Amazing what a difference of trading picks in the NHL and NFL is. In the NFL the Giants are having a hard time finding a team to trade them a 2nd for Osi. Here we can trade a gy like Dubinsky for a first.

2) Half the price than what Parise will require and the ability to retain all of our assets after next year when literally every talented, young player on the team will become a RFA.That said, SIGN HIM SLATS!!!
i'm really not worried about that. even if we add another big contract we'll have the space to sign the key players like stepan and mcdonagh...

maybe it'll force our hand on some of the support guys and maybe we'll end up moving anisimov so miller can play cause miller makes less $$ for the same role. but there is a good chance that happens anyway even if we have the cap space...

obviously can't be stupid with the $$ you give him but not everyone on our team is mission critical to keep if it means adding a star player

this is possible. let garbage walk this offseason. we have 16 million in cap (without trading dubi). resign dz and stralsy then fill in the gaps with prospects. let gaby go the year after or bring him back on a contract under 5 mil and resign the core players at reasonable contracts.

Picks are far more valuable in the NFL.

Almost every first round pick in the NFL plays in the NFL.

A lot of first round picks in the NHL don't even see NHL ice, and plenty more get no significant NHL time before their career is over.

Whatever some people might think of Dubinsky he is a legit NHL players and a top 6 worthy forward on about 2/3rds of NHL teams. If you're trading him and the main thing coming back is a draft pick it had better be a 1st. Practically every draft has first round misses--or plenty of who won't pan out to expectations. Most draft picks will at least need a couple years of development to even reach the NHL or never make it at all.

Dubinsky is a useful, rounded player who can play in all situations and averages over his career 40+ points a year. Takes face-offs, grinds, hits, cycles the puck well. It would be stupid to sell him short just because of one subpar year.

Presumably because trading Gaborik will net someone who fits in better with the team concept & can also score, though not as much as he does. If the team adds Parise for nothing but cap hit, then trades Dubinsky & Gaborik but adds another, say, 30 goal scorer who shows more heart than Gaborik, it is probably a net gain in more than one way.

Don't forget that Parise was coming off a knee injury; I'm sure his goal numbers will go up. Parise brings a heck of a lot more to the table as an all around player with grit, great hands, etc than Gaborik could ever hope for!

The cap may be as high as 72 mil, but the current CBA expires Sep 15th. It's very likely that the cap will be lower in the new CBA than it is right now.

It never hurts to have the Rangers involved to jack up the price.

Gaborik didn't score the GWG in game 4. He has as many goals as Parise does.

Yeah, 2013 RFA's are pretty important. But If Torts wants Parise then you know the Rangers will get them.

Lol, I left that part out. Take away Gaborik's time and space, and he is a useless one trick pony who brings nothing to the table especially when the games matter!
