Leave the left one for me. You can take the right one (LOL). I will bring her over to Canada and show her a good time.

I mean - when Slovakia win Canada or Czech, slovaks mean it almost miracle, an unexpected victory, a comething that happens once in a decade, and championship is a kind of sensation. Also Slovakia is not a favourite in games with Canada, Sweden, Czech, Finland and Russia (TOP-5 of world hockey during 30-40 years). That what i mean not a great hockey country, but you can be. Take medals within 2-3 years and you will

Finland was not a top hockey nation 30 years ago, and indepenent Czech republic didnt exist also. You should check your facts.

Question to Slovaks: what was a typical Slovak representation on the Czechoslovak NT before 92? I know the names of the greats of course, but looking back, what was the proportion? Thanks!

Well known line Liba - Rusnak - Lukac was Slovak line. Dusan Pasek, too. Dzurilla, Golonka, Stastny brothers, Tajcnar, Kuzela. In the last Czechoslovakia olympics in 1992 there were goalie Dragan, defensmen Veselovsky and Svehla, forward Liba.
Proportion was probably somewhere about 5 or 6 to 1.

If we are Czechoslovakia around year 2000 (golden age of both countries) expect even big names like Stumpel, Visnovsky or Satan would not make it to the final roster.

About 2-3 players. Slovak national player was always one class better than czech player on his position, otherwise has no chance to be in team. Almost all slovak players were the biggest stars of team Czechoslovakia - Golonka, Dzurilla, Stastny brothers, Pasek, Liba, Rusnak, etc...

still looking for your truth

keep it if you want there are multiple factors why there were less slovaks in the representation like czechs are 2 times bigger in inhabitance, mostly czech trainers lead the national team, everything what happen in czechoslovakia was decided in prague. Like in soviet union & moscow.

but if you see Peter Stastny as captain of national team you can see that Slovaks played big role also in czechoslovak team.

That big, ah....

I think all of Bondra, Stumpel , Palffy, Hossa, Demitra, Zedník and Handzus would make the 2000 team

Rather like Russia and Ukraine, the second being large, almost did not contribute to the NT, largely because hockey was not that popular there

I just can't believe how we managed to lose. I mean we dominate almost the whole game, get more chances and play so much better. All that Slovakia did were defend and counterattack. A few stupid mistakes completely cost us the game. And our attack just couldn't score any goals at all. Useless efficiency on PP. I guess this is how Russia must have felt when we beat them in the 2010 final. Ridiculous.

I'm glad that I refrained from congratulating Hadamczik on beating Sweden, because it seems that he'll still an awful coach. We're never, ever going to win gold under him. So the sooner he pisses off the better.

Oh and I hope Plekanec is never a captain again.

Ugh.
Why, what happened? I didn't see periods 2 and 3. You say Czechs were dominating, so how is that fault of the captain or the coach that we can't capitalize?

Zednik and Handzus definitely not. Stastny in his autobiography says about some kind of bias. If Slovak wanted to get in the roster he must have been twice as better as his czech counterpart. That's why Slovaks were often captains or best players on their positions in NT. They have to be great to make it there.

Congrats Slovakia! Some of my favorite Los Angeles Kings over the years are Slovak - Handzus, Palffy, Stumpel, Demitra. I always pull for you in international competition. Good luck next game!

I'm not sure who to root here. I usually cheer for Finland, Sweden, Canada, who ever bounces Finland in that order.
Now I kinda feel like cheering for Slovakia because of this amazing show of heart.
But since Russia bounced us I think I'll just be happy for who ever wins.

Did Kovar choke or what? I see that he was pulled. Already the first goal was weak.

No, he didn't. That was a strange move. 2nd and 3d goals where 1 on 1 with no defenders in front. There are highlight above in this thread, check it out

When he was pulled? He was pulled in the last minutes of a game and during one delayed penalty.
Agree. His performance was not exactly stellar.
