Brooks: Elias Must Go...

Whether you like him or not, no denying this is an insightful and fair assessment of Elias's game and the Devils' current predicament...

Meh, I have more hope Elias can and will turn it around than Brian Gionta.

Brooks can go start his car in the garage and take a nice nap.

Brooks needs someone to tie the noose for him. Elias will turn it around and he did not play too badly last night.

Brooks is a writer in a cheesy NY newspaper, Lou is a GM, I think Lou knows what to do with Elias........its always about the "TEAM" and if Lou could get something in return that will make the Devils BETTER, he'll do it, but wont trade him just for the sake of making a trade.
Is Elias in his prime...no, but besides Zack, he is one of the only guys that we can count on to score.

Just another instance of a sports-writer writing an article based solely on stat-sheets so he can get a paycheck rather than make a salient point, like Politi's pre-season evaluation (Devils too old = no good). Nevermind the fact that Elias has a no movement clause and has been asked to play a hundred different roles and none of them pure sniper like he was in 5+ years ago - his point totals have gone down!!! Trade his ass before his value goes lower!!!

Unfortunately for Brooks, Elias scored twice including the incredible rare Power Play Goal for the Devils and had an assist last night while being one of the best on the ice last night.

He's got 7 goals and 6 assists through 13 games along with 66 shots on net. Invisible players do not take an average of 3.88 shots on net per game. While we'd all like him to do better, it isn't all that bad either and he's clearly more noticeable than invisible. Same old bad luck, but there's nothing one can really do about that. That Brooks feels the Devils should trade one of the two incredibly skilled forwards on the team - along with John Madden - to get...something (he doesn't specify something other than a bailout package - prospects? a goaltender), a team that could use more of them, is baffling. That some may think this is insightful and fair is also baffling.

But then that Brooks still has a job writing about hockey is baffling.

Elias will be fine. Not 80 points fine like many predicted here before the season began, but 60-70 points fine.

I just hope that a lot of those points are goals.

That 60-70 points is accepted as FINE for a $6m/year player, who once was a franchise forward and USED TO dominate the Rangers is what is baffling...sure, you don't trade him for a bag of pucks, but there's no doubting that 60-70 points for this guy is KILLING the devils, if, as other posters have said, he is "one of the two" skilled forwards on this team!! He is counted on to score goals and hasn't done so on a consistent basis for 4 years!!!

elias is the most skilled player on this team by far. he has the whole package. hes the only one that can actually carry the puck on top of many other things

he has one of the best shots

hes one of the best skaters

he is the best stickhandler

he is our best 2 way forward

he provides leadership

he is versitle

he is our best passer

why would we want to trade that?

about keeping 2 out of 3
did we have depth at center when lou decided not to give gomez a contract?
im not sure about this, but probably not
gomez was our number one center and giving him 5 mil for several years instead of just one would have made us a very good team compared to what we were last year.
i am sorry but lou has not made a single move i am happy about since the lockout

I dislike Brooks like everyone else but he is right Elias hasn't and isn't performing as he should. I blame Lou for this. Elias always needed a center and wing that could skate, pass and gain position. Lou has never acquired the right players to play with Elias. So the result is Lou is stuck with the contract he made with Elias and Lou is the loser. Elias is the winner financially.

Patrik is here to stay ladies and gents. Did you read in the Bergen Record print edition? He scored 3 goals in 2 games this weekend and was pissed off. He has the drive to score more, it's not from lack of effort. Patrik........you rock!

I don't think he's going to "recover", honestly. I think what we're seeing is what we're going to get with Patty. But he's solid all-around and still one of the game's more dominate forwards when given a solid support cast (Not Maddolfo; see the last World Championships).

In essence, I don't see much more from him, but I still think he's valuable.
