Qatar and Jamaica.

Intriguing additions! Will they be better than the Blue Jackets?

Wish there was more to these stories sometimes. Must be interesting to see how they get things off the ground enough to build rinks.

It only took 20 years, but Jamaica is finally the preeminent hockey power of the Caribbean, surpassing Trinidad and Tobago.

With the amount of money floating around in Qatar, someone probably just felt like building some rinks, so they did.

Would also like to know how Finland lost out to T&T, Denmark, France, and Italy.

Qatar is a rich, rich nations where people do not pay taxes... no health care or education costs either. I saw a feature on "60 minutes" on CBS, and man, I've been so impressed with the quality of living there. (And no dictatorship either)

UAE will likely follow at some point. Another place where they have more money than they know what to do with.

UAE already has a national team and they have competed in the World Championships already in 2010 where they finished 4th in Division III Group A losing to Greece 7:1, Luxembourg 3:2, and Ireland 8:2. They withdrew in 2011 though because of...well no official reason but Israel was going to be in their Group so you can guess why.

Back again though for next year where they will host the Division III Qualification Group with Greece, Mongolia and Georgia.

Yep... and, if you didn't know it before, you now know why Israel's football and basketball teams play in the European competitions wherever possible.

I don't entirely understand why Division III needs to be six teams. Why can't it be 8? It's not like you can really go any lower than D-III. There's no Division IV.

Reading about Jamaica is interesting. They apparently have Olympic aspirations and are tracking down players in Jamaica's diaspora to come play for the team. We'll see how successful they are in attracting talent, but they've got some financial backers.

That would be sooo crazy if Jamaica ever came near the olympics or even WCH d1

My next comment was going to be 'I'm surprised they haven't yet.' Guess there was a reason.
