It would be very hard to break up the AFC West.

Rams have been in the NFC longer than the Jags have been in the South. Not gonna happen.

You do realize that there's politics involved with this, right? The Seahawks were the team that moved from the AFC because they were the youngest AFC team, other than the toddler Jaguars, at the time (Seattle volunteered for the move, if memory serves me correct...I wouldn't blame them for desiring a fresh start considering how awful their history was in the AFC). The Rams, regardless of city changing, have been around since 1937, 38 years longer than the Seahawks.

The Steelers, Browns, and Colts also switched to the AFC when the leagues 'merged' as well. Why? Partially due to the financial ramifications (they were essentially bought out of the NFC), partially due to location. The Browns and Steelers were largely a package deal, too (the exact flow of the story depending on which side you choose to believe). The Colts were the first team to accept, almost without even having to be asked.

Still kinda weird that the Steelers are the oldest team in the AFC by 17 years and 37 years older than the 4th oldest team in the conference.

Breaking up traditional rivalries has proven difficult. Remember, the Dallas Cowboys are in the NFC East, while the Rams (more eastward than Dallas) are in the West. I'll basically say that the AFC North (the 3 pre-AFL AFC cities plus an original post-merger expansion team in Cincinnati, who is an in-state rival with Cleveland and they like to pretend they matter enough to the Steelers to be rivals), AFC West (4 original AFL teams that ****ing hate each other and have been playing together since the merger), NFC East (already proven the primary rivalries won't be broken up, considering Dallas is in the same 'regional' division as New York, Washington, and Philadelphia), and NFC North (the Vikings are the only team here that don't trace their routes to or before the Great Depression) are impervious to re-alignment as long as the league stays at 32 teams. The league did everything they could to sustain the primary rivalries in those conferences before the last re-alignment and will do anything they can to continue them. Travel costs in the NFL mean far less than in any other sport.

I want the NFL in Los Angeles. I want it bad. Part of that is my impending move to the area and my desire to see Steelers games on occasion. Part of it is also because **** Jacksonville.

Whoever moves is going to get screwed, geographically speaking, when it comes to where they'll play...but does it really matter? This is a league where Indianapolis plays in a division named South and Dallas plays in a division named East. I rather would enjoy seeing a division named the AFC South that would include teams from Indiana and California.

The second team will come later, after AEG decides how much to charge for rent based on fan interest. Not immediately. There wouldn't be any sense in signing a deal where they give too much of a good deal to somebody based on the unknown.

Even better. Point stands, those four divisions aren't going to be changed under any realistic circumstance...so any move is going to have to happen in the other four.

Los Angeles is still south, technically. Maybe not in the way the division was originally meant...but Indianapolis has been it from the inception of it, so the term is loose.

Ideally the NFL would like an AFC team there to make the conference's TV contract more valueable. The Chargers or Raiders moving there would probably be the most seemless solution, but in the later case it won't happen if Al is alive.

Not sure why people are getting all bent out of shape regarding divisions. You play once a week, usually in the afternoon, the travel consequences are basically meaningless. This isn't the 3 other sports.

As BigMc said, Indy isn't South. Dallas isn't East. If the Jags move to LA, they can definitely stay in that division until a better geographic solution is found.

I have a feeling it will be the Jags moving to L.A. hope it works for them.

West teams going east is a huge problem, though.

My solution: Jacksonville to LA and NFC West, TB/CAR/ATL to the AFC South, St Louis to NFC South.

If its the Vikings then the Rams and Vikings trade places. If its SD or OAK nothing changes. If it Buffalo or JAX we may have a mess.

Geographically divisions should be.

NFC:
East: PHI, WAS, NYG, CAR
North: MIN, GB, CHI, DET
West: SF, ARZ, SEA, STL
South: TB, ATL, NO, DAL

AFC:
East: NE, NYJ, BUF, BAL
North: PIT, CLE, CIN, IND
West: SD, OAK, DEN, KC
South: HOU, JAX, TEN, MIA

But they wanted to keep DAL and MIA in East for rivalries sake which leaves Indy somehow in the South.

same thing for the Jaguars.

Weaver is not selling or moving the team unless he dies. Period.

People talk about Jacksonville, Buffalo, and Minnesota as the prime 3 for relocation. If I had to place a bet as to a team relocating to LA, I would bet on the Chargers. IF they don't get a new stadium worked out and Jacksonville and Buffalo still have owners who are committed to keeping a team in each city and are not wavering their stance, come 2016 I see the Chargers relocating.

But the Vikes stadium issue is worse then Chargers at this time thus why they are viewed as very possible

When all is said and done both Vikes and Chargers could take road to LA in coming decade

Besides, how many years did the NFC West have San Francisco, Los Angeles Rams, Atlanta, New Orleans, and Carolina upon its entry? And then when the Rams went to St. Louis, it meant four of the five teams were either at or East of the Mississippi River.
