1) You cant get high-quality shots
2) 1/3 to 1/2 of your shots never even get to Lundqvist
3) You're left with simple point shots, bad angles, and easy saves
4) You get MAYBE 3-5 legitimate scoring opportunities per game
5) If all else fails, Lundqvist is a top-5 goalie in the game
The reason they win so many 2-1 games is because they've created a defensive scheme in which it's nearly impossible to score on. Part of this scheme, is that they barely try to score, because offensive effort increases risk.
Nowhere is this more obvious than on the Rangers powerplay, which is among the least aggressive I've ever seen. I actually dont think it would be a poor idea if the Devils take more chances while shorthanded and try to catch the Rangers by surprise.
The Rangers PP has been particularly cautious against the Devils because they knew how aggressive the Jersey PK could be. Torts was saying before game 1 that he wanted his players to all be extra aware of who's where on their powerplay.
That is why I have a tinfoil hat. Unreal to have the Rangers and Kings already out of this round. Kings are up 3-1, I understand but still they aren't saying it could be happening. They are saying its happening.
I really hope the refs don't buy his schtick. If anything, we're the ones getting screwed by the lack of calls against the insane amount of obstruction the Rangers get away with.
Tortorella predictably goes the martyrdom route, and with Prust having been suspended he's trying to make it seem like like it's the Rags vs. the world...I don't see the refs buying his ridiculous schtick but they'll probably have their whistles out a bit more than usual.
