It's cool, you're welcome to get mad at me. I'll assume thats your first response, since you actually came over this way to talk hockey like I asked before... you do seem to want to learn.

Hope you don't mind, but I'm going to go and be cocky some more now.

Just get Wideman or Carle.

If Semin doesn't opt for the Redwings he might consider joining his ol' pal Varly in CO.

Other than that I'd rather see what Sgarbossa's got.

(Parise and Suter seem like longs shots)

you'd rather stick with O'Brien? Wideman was the Capitals' most productive defenseman and Carle could log decent minutes and would still improve our team overall.

Rule of thumb: If you want the same thing another team wants (#1 defender) and they just released a "high profile" defender to free agency, why would you want their garbage?

If he was a RFA and didn't receive a qualifying offer, that's one thing, but for a UFA, there are too many variables in play to say the team didn't want him. Maybe the guy wants to test the market, especially in a weak FA year like this. Maybe he wants a change of scenery. Maybe he has an ex-girlfriend/wife that is crazy and keeps showing up at his house at 3 am, and going to a different team is the best option to get away from her. Without knowing everything going through the guy's head, it's hard to say for sure.

As long as whoever the Avs sign is better than SOB, who cares where they came from?

Because those two aren't worth half as much as they're going to get. Wideman was horrid this season and in the playoffs, only Schultz was worse in Washington and every single Caps fan wants him as far away from Washington as possible (same with Carle in Philly).

Carle is a small, has a shot like a 12 year old (people were whining about Liles's shot and he's Al MacInnis compared to Carle), is a decent puck mover but nothing special, he blocks shots but is bad defensively otherwise and he's probably going to get around 5mil which is way too much for my liking. Those two and their new contracts are going to make Paul Martin's contract look like a steal.

Honestly if they sign either of those two after they traded Liles (who's better than both and is making less) away for a 2nd round pick I'm going to lose it.

It's a rule of thumb, not a law written in stone.

Additionally, it's if they release them. We've seen nothing to indicate Carle/Wideman don't want to return to Philly, so be skeptical about acquiring them. That's the point.

I feel similarly about Garrison, but at least Panthers fans want to retain him.

Curious as to why you said Gardiner, I thought Colorado had a good number of puck moving prospects in the system?
We do, but all of our PMDs are righties, Elliott and Barrie, and our top lefties are either very far away, Siemens, or just now breaking into the NHL, Gaunce, we have no one who can play with EJ next season and if we had to trade with Toronto getting Gardiner for that role or Kessel to play next to one of our remaining centers, would be the only enticing options.

Would guys be interested in a Cammalleri/Stastny deal? What pieces would CGY have to add?

Nope, don't want him anywhere near Colorado.

It's funny, but I hardly have time for more than a few major shows (Game of Thrones, final Eureka season, BBT...) so I've just seen some of the clips people send me.

You can watch all the episodes here when you find the time and if you want to:

And here's my favourite scenes:

That's it from me about QI, I don't want to derail this thread any further.

Sure. How does Shane O'Brien and Cody McLeod sound? They are UFA, so you'll just be getting their negotiation rights.

Aka, he's not worth what Calgary will want to move him.

JBo isn't as bad as some are trying to present him, but he surely isn't worth his cap hit either and we can't afford to trade something that would make Flames consider moving him in the division.

Colorado has depth down the middle and a decent group of left wingers (Landeskog, McGinn, Mueller, Olver). Their defense, however, is riddled with inexperience and question marks, with only Johnson, Hejda, and O'Byrne as reliable performers.

I think we can sacrifice a 5th or something.

Seriously though, I think the Avs and Flames just don't make good trade partners atm.

On Ryan Suter

One source put it this way..."There are going to be a whole lot of disappointed teams when it comes to Suter. The places he wants to go are very limited." It appears that the Canadian teams, as well as the Eastern Conference big teams won't be able to just throw money at Suter after all. From various sources I have heard that he wants to either stay in Nashville or sign with either Colorado, Detroit, or Minnesota. When the playoffs began I would have put the chances of Suter signing in Nashville about 70%, however now I would say 45% that Suter returns....which, while it is a higher percentage than I would give to him signing with any other specific team, means I now feel the chances are slightly greater he is leaving Nashville.

Yeah it's Ek but when hes BSing it's usually to attract hits from the larger fan bases. I thought it was interesting enough to repost.
