You need the cone of silence. What a terrible ****ing trade. I'd rather pick up Redden and have him in Austin than trade for Gomez. If Eller and LeBlanc are both coming with him I'd consider it but not likely.

We'll probably have to try to land Kostitsyn if we fail to land Parise...

A 2nd media guy (the first being the top guy at The Fourth Period) is saying Dallas is someone to watch in free agency:

Quote:
Jimmy Murphy ‏@MurphysLaw74

Watch the Dallas Stars when free agency starts!
The source writes for ESPN Boston.

I should feel excitement, but instead only terror.

Terror is healthy in this free agent market.

Dallas is faced with doing nothing and the fan base (at least the general population) being pissed that things haven't changed from having no owner to the new shiny owner.

It's a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. You've preached that the past is behind us, it's a new era, and the restrictions are gone .... that's true, but it's a terrible market to have a bottomless piggie bank in.

I do hope they gamble on a potential PR mess for not going big an bold and opt for another fairly conservative summer like last year. That said ... I won't be shocked a bit if Dallas goes big and bold with Garrison. We know Niuewy loves big shots from the point. I just hope Garrison isn't the one year wonder that I fear he could be.

I just hope that if they are going to overpay for a free agent, give a guy like Zach Parise 3-4 million dollars a year more than he's worth instead of signing 2 or 3 depth plugs for 1-2 million each more than they are worth. If we're blowing money we might as well go for the touchdown, and we can produce our own plugs for the 3rd and 4th lines that are cost controlled.

Same. I don't trust Joe at all to make anything other than safe, boring moves that do nothing for the team. I hope he proves me wrong.

I think Garrison is a Star by 2 pm. We'll probably pay him way too much as well.

I think 4-5 mill would be alright for him in this market.

Garrison would be our defensive rock, there's no doubt about that. He would be a perfect upgrade in the same role as Souray played for the team last season.

I agree. I don't think the cap hit will be the problem I think the term will. Something like 7-8 years 30 million.

It is terrible, and slightly tempting until you realize that only one of them would actually be useful if they sucked in an offensive role. Thus Morrow is the better one to have.

This. And only this.

Could have something to do with only having 4 hours of sleep in the past two days though.

Let the fun begin in less than 11 hours.

His last few years even on 13 year contract would be still good playing years. It's likely he goes for a 5 or 6 year contract that's paying him big bucks now and hope he can get another big contract later.

Why take a frontloaded contract that will have you getting payed next to nothing in your final years when you're worth more than that. They'd have to make it a 15 or 16 year contract to make it work that way and you can be guarenteed the league would take issue to that.
You ask why. Here's why.

Because there's always the chance you're NOT going to be worth a ton in 10 years. So you take your $80 million dollar deal, become set for life no matter what, and be happy playing hockey. It's the same reason Crosby just took a $100 million dollar deal for way less than his cap would be on the open market. He gets his $100 million dollars, to play for a team he likes, and ride off into the sunset of bags of money.

That's it. No more issues. No more drama. You guys have him signing for under $50 million. No, freakin' way. You'll see.

Let me put it this way: Paul "4th liner' Gaustad just signed a $13 million dollar deal. Parise and Suter are going to push 80, and rightfully so, they are the gems of the free agent class and players of their caliber don't hit free agency often.

Today is the day! Quite excited as Dallas will be going after a lot of players. Somehow I'm not very optimistic that Top-UFAs will want to sign here. If that's the case, then I'd rather see Benn, Larsen, Bachs get more money to reach the cap floor than overpay to those 3rd & 4th line UFAs.

Any GDT planned for today?

My bet: One of Hudler, Doan, Prust.

Doan won't sign until the 8th, but wouldn't mind a 2 year deal being done.

In all honesty, I feel as though GMJN is going to land parise. It's just a gut feeling.
