Flames, Jackets Draft Day Trade:

Calgary: Rick Nash 27, 7 years-54 mil, Nick Holden 25, Columbus 2012 3 round pick

Columbus: Sven Baertschi, Jay Bouwmeester 28, 2 years 14 mil, Calgary 2012 1 round pick

Bouwmeester's cap hit nearly matches Nash's, so it buys Calgary two years towards making a final push with its core including Nash. Columbus is able to pair up Baertschi and Johansen who are familiar with each other from their time in Portland.

Iginla, Tanguay, Kipper, and Jokinen aren't getting younger, but can still compete. Adding Nash with Cammellari gives Calgary a legit scoring threat.

Makes very little sense from a Flames standpoint, and i doubt Nash would waive to come to play here in the first place.

Pass..

I don't mind the value, but we really need more roster forwards back for Nash. That said, the overwhelming number of Flames fans shooting this one down suggests that the point is moot regardless.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

Flames are "rebuilding" there not gonna trade two of there most valuable future assets in Baertschi(SP) and whoever they take with the pick for a 30 year old.

Nash wouldn't waive his NTC for Calgary.

Value is not far off. Ignoring the fact that Nash wouldn't waive for Calgary, still wouldn't do it from a flames standpoint. No way were trading our best prospect, even if it is for Nash. The flames haven't had this much of an elite prospect for quite some time.

The Flames lose this so badly it's hard too explain.
You have them giving up their best D (a minute cruncher), best prospect & 1st round pick for a chance to have Nash play 2nd line RW, a defense-man that couldn't make the BJ roster & a 3rd.

Columbus wins big but Feaster wants to make his team a contender too.

Yes, but it is the quality of the stuff. JBow is a minute cruncher, but not good enough to warrant his salary on anything else. He was -21 on a -24 team. Baertchi is great, but he is not that franchise cornerstone type prospect. Their first is middle of the pack.

Was saying that it isn`t a loss that much for Flames.

Sven is a top 15 prospect and the first prospect in several years to go 2 ppg in the whl regardless of if he is a cornerstone he is still a blue chip.

He's facing the other teams top players for near 1/2 the game. A lot of teams value that in their defense. A guy that can log the hard minutes. That defensive responsibility allows his partner to jump up into the play. Alternately, under a different system he might enjoy the freedom to join the rush again.
Even if we were to call JBo (& the 1st for arguments sake) for Nash a wash that leaves Baertschi for Holden & a 3rd.

Seriously, if the situation was reversed would you be in favor?

Remember, both teams in a trade are trying to improve their team.

Calgary should do this only if Rick Nash agrees to rename himself "Jerome Iginla II."

Yeah, I don't see Calgary and Columbus as being good trade partners.

I wouldn't trade Baertschi straight up for Nash. What a brutal contract.

Me neither. Nash is extremely overrated. He plays even less defense than Iginla does. The last thing we need is another career loser who doesn't buy into a system on this team.

If I were Feaster I'd hang up the phone and change my # and then give it to every GM not named Howson after hearing this proposal Maybe I'm in the minority but Nash's contract IMO really takes the shine off of acquiring a player like him.

Wouldn't move Sven straight up for Nash. Actually, wouldn't move any of the pieces you listed straight up for Nash.

This is just a bad, bad proposal.

Shame on you.

No!!!! Besides nash wld wave his NTC. I have heard alot on a bouwmeester for stastny trade.
Stastny in between iggy and cammalleri would be awsome and i could see that bringing stastny back to his old stats. For colorado they get a smarter d man after the loss of quincey who may shine again in the change of scenory

Iginla, Tanguay, Kipper, and Jokinen aren't getting younger, but can still compete. Adding Nash with Cammellari gives Calgary a legit scoring threat.[/QUOTE]
