Ducks sign Viktor Fasth

Eric Stephens ‏@icemancometh
Won't be a surprise if Ducks signing of Swedish goalie Viktor Fasth comes down this week. Final details likely being worked out.

Jesse Spector ‏@jessespector
#Ducks sign Viktor Fasth, the first goalie to win back-to-back Honken Trophies (the Swedish version of the Vezina) since Henrik Lundqvist

So does that mean Hiller is on his way out?

Nah...just means that hopefully, they get a solid backup that can play 20+ games a season for them. I'd be shocked to see Hiller moved.

Why wasn't Iiro Tarkki given more of an opportunity?

Because he was pretty shaky, even down in Syracuse.

1 year one million dollar deal for Fasth.

@CurtisZupke Confirmed it's a one-way deal worth $1 million for Fasth. Dan Ellis will be a UFA and it's doubtful the Ducks will re-sign him.

Down the stretch he was solid. But I guess he didn't have the patience for a second go around.

He was just good enough for the AHL from the game's I'd caught, but he wasn't going to threaten a longer stint in the NHL any time soon.

Good point. He might be better off in the KHL anyway.

Why no love for Jeff Deslauriers?

His contract switches over to one way in the coming season.

Unfortunately, his play in Syracuse really hasn't helped his chances. Had he been decent, that fact about his contract would have made him a safe bet for backup-duties in Anaheim next year, but he wasn't, and seeing Hiller struggle to start out of the gate and the impact of that on our season made it obvious that the spot was deserving of more attention, I suppose.

Gustavsson 2.0

Not the same type of style, but I imagine his career being similar to Gus.

Lol. Ducks will regret this, i just cant understand this deal. Fasth is the most overrated goalie... So shaky when there are real games being played, easy goals too often. Well, 1 year and then back to Sweden/KHL.

Sorry Ducks, but you will regret this

He is awfully bad, he's the biggest reason sweden failed at the latest WHC too.

It's not like we had any alternatives. JDD was a bad candidate; may even be bought out if we can't trade him.

Besides, it's not like we need this guy to play 30 games a season or anything. We have a damn good starting goaltender.

There is more than a dozen better goalies in Europe. For 1m, Ducks could have had a very good goalie instead of fasth.

Too...? What other disappointments for his teams is he almost single-handedly responsible for? After winning SEL goalie of the year for the second time, I would guess not a lot. Honestly, I can't help but assume that this is just some fans of other SEL teams blaming him for their country's success at this WHC. Maybe that's even accurate, but it's a short tournament that isn't suitable to judge a player on, and certainly not compared to the years before.

I don't really understand the people bashing this move when it's a relatively low risk/high reward move. Even if he fails, he's only signed for 1 year.
