My guess Henrique punked McDonagh. Both tough guys though.
Henrique got a left to McDonagh's jaw and then they both wrestled down to the ice

Its funny how the spear gets attention because Pierre says so. Meanwhile Gaborik with a blatant elbow to the head gets zero talk,

Pretty sure Kovy dropped Schenn earlier in the year.

Simple as that really, I wish Kovy did a lot worse to him tbh.
Ha...so a noogie deserves a spear, or worse, in retaliation?

Yea that makes sense

Brayden Schenn is most likely done with his wig. Callahan can wear it.

A spear is an extremely dangerous play, and there is no place for it. In no way did Callahan deserve to be speared for what he did to Kovy.

Just lol @ Devil fans justifying it. True colors I guess.

Better period for the Rangers but the tempo just enough yet, hope we can get one early here.

It's a spear. Whichever way you wanna twist it, it's a spear.

Punches to the head in after whistle scrums generally get punished with a 2 minute minor for roughing.

Spears, if landed, generally get punished with a 5 minute major.

So yea, the NHL disagrees with your argument.

It was a virtual non issue on CBC because that's what it really was. Irrelevant.

Nor would it be the first time he got dusted. Callahan just isnt as good at fighting as he likes to think he is. Maybe coach Torts pumps his tires.

It's a spear, but not a brutal one that would garner a suspension.

Callahan made it look good. I mean, his helmet barely moved.

He won't be suspended simply because Callahan provoked it. (Kovy was sitting on his ass and got a glove to the face) and it wasn't something he did in a predetermined manner. Still... stupid move by Kovy and I'm sure he's getting a lecture about it right now in the locker room.

So after getting punched in the head by the rangers captain (standing on his feet), what would the proper instinctual response be while sitting on the ice if you're Kovy?

For anyone who doesn't know

Quote:
51.1 Roughing Roughing is a punching motion with the hand or fist, with or without the glove on the hand, normally directed at the head or face of an opponent.
Roughing is a minor altercation that is not worthy of a major penalty to either participant. (An altercation is a situation involving two players, with at least one to be penalized)

I've only seen butt-ending called on plays to the face/head. (if that's even an NHL penalty anymore)

Spearing from my experience is called on butt ends to the gut/body.

Little taps of the stick blade to the body like that are called slashed from my experience as well.

The severity was minimal and the ref was watching it all directly from 5 feet away. Correct calls were made and now Ranger fans want blood after the Prust suspension. I understand it but I gotta say get real. Tit for tat.
