After Hank stood on his head to keep the team in the game in game three yesterday's effort is how the team thanks him? something not quite right about that. 60 minute blitzkrieg for game five or fold up the tent. we don't have it this year.

Can't tell for sure, but it looks like Tortorella just kicked his team off the ice.

This is one of those statements that could either be really good, or really bad.

This news about the practice isn't what we needed now.

Hope it was good rather then not.

The Rangers system collapses around its goaltender. When they get control of the puck (lately after chasing it for 45-60 seconds). Then when they finally have control they are 5 deep in their zone.

At that point the tired d-man or forward is more concerned about getting the puck out along the boards. Thus giving it right back to a Debs d-man. The D-man shoots it right back in and the battle continues.

How this team hasn't gassed out sooner is amazing. We need some fresh legs here.

Pierre was just on with Francesa and I think he nailed it. The x factor tomorrow night and the rest of the series for the Rangers is Chris Kreider. He has the fresh legs, the energy, and the ability to finish. Obviously if Gabby, Richie, and Cally start playing like they're capable of that would be huge but Kreider's freshness is huge for this team.

I guess last night carried over to practice, hopefully this gives them a kick in the ass and lights a fire under them because they need it, hopefully captain no sho can rally the troops.

At the very least, Callahan needs to start getting in guys faces. Learn from Messier.

Don't understand why Torts needs to do anything extra to motivate them right now. You're in the CONFERENCE FINALS. Is that not enough for them? It's not like you're on a west coast trip in November. You're one of FOUR teams remaining. Enough with the lack of effort.

Even the most untalented grinder can pass the puck 5 feet to another player, which the Rangers have been unable to do consistently. And the Rangers have a talented D.

The problems are effort (or exhaustion) and the system. There is no urgency, ever, and the Devils know what the Rangers are going to do every step of the way.

The Devils know where our forecheckers are and are going to be so even their bottom 6/bottom pair dance past them, usually giving them an opportunity to have our D backing in from the blueline which makes either puck control or dump and chase extremely effective. The Rangers on the other hand, only get a clean breakout when the Devils are changing, and NJ has 5 guys in the Neutral/Defensive zone. We try our stretch-pass/tip-in combo but because the Devils D is already back and the Rangers forwards have no momentum (not to mention a healthy amount of interference) they almost never reach the puck first. And that is a good breakout. The flip side is when the Devils are in the Rangers zone, and they know under any pressure the Rangers are sending the puck up the boards. The confidence that even their worst D man has to hold the blueline is scary. Meanwhile the Rangers D look like they are changing half the time they are so far back in the Neutral Zone.

I don't know what can be done about effort. If the Rangers are that tired or can't get it together in the ECF against the Devils than there is not much that can be done. But the system can be adjusted. Tinker with the breakout. Tinker with the forecheck.

Or if the Rangers really want to screw with the Devils, trap. Cause their crappy D to make some plays at their blueline and go in full steam off of turnovers. Make the Devils work to get in the zone. Make the forwards have to start accelerating AFTER the puck goes into the zone, then shoot it right out to center.

The Devils had a week to prepare for the Rangers. And when you add that to Torts unwillingness (or inability) to make adjustments you have a dangerous combination. The team either has to wake up and play their game at full speed, or they need to show them something different.
Well said sir! You should email this to Torts.

Don't buy the "#NYR kicked off ice" talk. That just seemed like a short practice, as it should be between games at this point.

That may be worse.

"Just keep doing what you're doing we are good" isn't the mantra they should be espousing at the moment.
