I'm going to go off the board and say...

Lucic.

I've thought for awhile now that he drives the emotional bus for this team. He's a unique player in the game. A huge part of their identity. And I think the challenge/burden of leadership would do him some good.

Hey, Looch wasn't in the poll and hadn't received one write-in vote when I posted that. Now he's got two supporters!

Well I think you can go in many directions. I would not mind seeing Patrice Bergeron have two As on his sweater. I would also not mind Andrew Ferands with it. I bet his grandmother knitted him sweaters with A on them for Andrew and now the Bruins are giving him a sweater with an A on it. It's like that thing where things that seemingly happened before seemingly happen again. Like when you say "there are 20 minutes left in the period" and 50 minutes later there are 20 minutes left in the period again. I think they made a movie about it. The Inception or something like that, well anyway, they wouldn't call Dennis McQuaid "Old Rough and Ready" if he weren't so that's something to monitor closely if you're into that kind of thing.

Lucic.

I've said it before and I'm sticking with it.

The guy is a game changer and drives this team emotionally. When he is on his game, the team is on their game, physically and emotionally.

He sets the tone and that's what you need from your leaders.

My order of succession:

1. Ference
2. Seidenberg
3. Thornton

Can't really see anyone else wearing it right now. Lucic in a few years maybe.

Bergeron as the only heir to the "C". Can't see anyone else wearing it.

Until Lucic learns to control his temper they'll never give him an A.

Should have been Thornton this year. He's the heart and soul of the team. It's about leadership...not points.

As noted previously, Thornton has said he doesn't want the "A."

Guys who wear the "A" have to talk to officials on the ice and represent their team. Thornton generally plays limited minutes, he's an enforcer, and he spends a lot of time fighting/getting kicked out of games/jawing at the opposition and officials. He's also a healthy scratch now and then.

That doesn't mean he's not a leader - he is. But he's a different kind of leader. He keeps the guys loose at practice and in the dressing room; he lets the kids know what's expected of them, and how to deal with limited TOI or sitting in the press box; he's great at dealing with the media. But you don't need to wear an "A" to do that.

I think it should stay only Ference if Kelly walks.

However, you could take a different approach. If he does, you could give it to a leader on the team, like Lucic or Thornton, Seidenberg, whoever. Or, you could do what about 25 teams do, give it to the most skilled player on your team. So maybe Seguin. obviously kidding

Yeah, being alternate captain isn't all about leadership. There are actual on-ice responsibilities that come with a letter, I think a lot of people forget that.

I agree, with a Cup under his belt, Lucic needs to be challenged, and a leadership position with an A would be just the thing.

Thorton will not see increased ice time and likely will not see many playoff games in the future. Might be the thirteenth forward. No reason for the "A". He is signed to protect the boys and brings some energy to the game. I know he has two Stanley Cup rings, but he's aging and is not much of a scoring threat.

He was really good in the movie The Rookie, where a 40 year old rugby coach finally makes the Irish national team.

Ference.

Lucic has FAR to many nights when he is not working hard to warrant getting a letter on his sweater.

He's an RFA after the season, if he is not motivated by that a letter on his sweater is not going to push him.

I think Ference will wear it full time. He is one of the longest tenured Bruins and has earned it. I was surprised to see the split last year but I thought it was cool at the same time.

I have 3 choices and listed 4 players plus other

Only Ference
Split it between Ference and someone else
Different guy(s)

Krejci
Peverley
Boychuk
Seidenberg
Other
Give it to Krejci for that heroic effort in the World Championships, either that or Lucic or Marchand for their ***** to the wall effort in that do or die 1st round against the Caps. The Captaincy and assistants are so overrated what a waste of time.
