Sandis Ozolinsh

Is he still considered an elite-level defensemen?

I haven't seen much of him in recent years, i see that he is still putting up points but how is his play?

Is a UFA next year?

Ozolinsh is still an elite defender in the league no doubt, and his value is lowering, but he is a better defender than he ever was considering how much better his defensive game got. I just don't get this

It was nothing more than a salary dump by the Panthers, Trnka and Cullen didn't pan out like expected while Ozo (and Ward) on the other hand helped Anaheim reach the Stanley Cup Finals. Panthers definitely lost in that deal unless James Pemberton ends up becoming a defenseman of significance.

An elite defensemen? Absolutely not. He's top 20-25, and to me, that's not an elite defenseman. At the top of his game, he's not quite as good as Sergei Gonchar in almost every area, and IMO Gonchar isn't an elite defenseman.

Top 10 is elite as far as I'm concerned.

A very good defenseman, he has great offensive and defensive skills. He'd be in the top 20 list of defensemen in the league for sure.

Eh if your reasoning for Gonchar not being an elite dmen is that he isnt amoung the top 10 dmen in the league, then I agree....but the fact that he's somewhere in the top 2 or 3 offensive dmen in the game right now, then I'd say there's no way you couldnt consider him elite

A case could be made, but I don't think he's dominating enough to warrant a tag such as elite. Again, I'd consider about 10, give or take a few to fit into such a category. There's a handful just like Gonchar who're on the cusp IMO such as Redden, Ohlund, Foote, Aucoin. Cases could be made for them to be not only above Gonchar but below him as well.

Borderline at best.
