Not at all. For some players, sure, playing on the 2nd line brings less pressure. But let's not fool ourselves, all eyes will be on Granlund right out of the gate. The pressure will be on him no matter which line he is on.

So, considering the fact that the pressure on him will be immense and unavoidable, wouldn't it make sense to put him on a line where he already has someone he is comfortable playing with?

We've circled around this discussion for the whole damn season, why is this suddenly relevant again after he signed? You can't really predict these things and we haven't found a middle ground in 9 friggin months so just chill for the summer and heat this up after about 20 games into the season.

2nd line is absolutely less pressure. Expectations are lower. That's why it's the second line, not the first. Of course all eyes are going to be on him, but no one is going to be expecting him to carry the team or be THE guy. If you throw him up on the first line he will be expected to contribute more, and judged more harshly if he doesn't. As it should be. Exceptions apply, of course--no one is seriously going to expect heatley to put up 40 goals playing with Johnson and Cullen, for example.

Well the most important thing is that he builds up some (a lot of) muscle. But that's gottta be under control since we're talking about North American coaching.

Didn't take too long for the Leafs fans to come and put Granlund down because he hasn't played a single game in the NHL.

So it seems like a discussion of less pressure/less chance of success vs. more pressure/more chance of success. I'd rather it be the latter.

They're just upset because they are still stuck with Kadri.

There's going to be pressure on the kid regardless of where he plays in the lineup. I don't think it would make a difference.

Put him where he can be the most useful and in a position where he can have the most success.

Leafs just mad because they couldn't get a decent prospect in the last decade.

This season 35-45 points meant you were a top5 scorer. I'd be happy with that. Actually last time with 45 points outside the top5 was... 2006-2007 (Mikko Koivu 5th, 20+34=54)

Let's hope he can avoid concussions as long as possible. He has already had one I think and then there was a second time when they thought he might have had a concussion, but got off with a scare.

I might be mixing these two occasions that were actually one and the same I'm not sure. If there are any IFK-fans here they can set me straight.

I don't know but I'd suggest you to ignore Leafs fans in the main board thread.

I'm quite sure the second one was just neck muscle thing.

And just pointing out that Granlund missed a month this year because of sticky flu. Some people seem to have begun to think that he's specially injury prone. As far as I can tell he had the one concussion (which wasn't a light one). I understand that people are still scared because of it but most people who have played sports with physical contact have had at least one concussion during their career.

Yeh I know hockey isn't ballet and concussions might be part of the deal some times. I just can see some of these ogres on skates burning a fuse while trying to stop the pass machine that he is. Those are times that Mikke has gotta be aware of his surroundings

I don't think it's crazy to expect that Granlund can net 50 points this coming season. Not all rookies are created equal, and all indications show Granlund is one of the more exceptional talents coming into the league. I for one think it's crazier to expect only 35 points from him in a full healthy season, where he'll get a ton of pp time.

And there's the rub (not just him, but team-wise as well).

Also...keep in mind, Granlund is at his best in tight spaces. Being that he is an average skater, he didn't deal with a lot of open ice...this is a guy who can stick handle in a phone booth while making defenders miss. He'll be right at home on NA ice.

That's my worry as well. I'm sure his production levels will be fine, it's the injury possibilities, especially a concussion, that scares me ****less.
