Mark Fistric

I was wondering what the value of the rights to RFA Mark Fistric. I imagine from his stats he is a pretty solid shut down defenseman, with 0 offensive upside. My guess for his value would be a 3rd round pick.

MTL 2013 3rd or 2012 4th for Fistric' rights

I think Stars won't trade him with Grossman being delt earlier this season.

I would trade Fistric for literally anything.

If we can trick some team into taking him off our hands while also giving us a 3rd or 4th round pick, then Nieuwendyk is a genius.

Is he that bad? I thought he was a pretty stable 3rd pairing guy.

This is one of the few things me and Scuba disagree on. Scuba hates him (like most of the current Stars), and I'm okay with keeping him. In my opinion, Fistric is a bottom pair physical D-man who excels at PKing and destroying opponents. His actual ability to play hockey is average to below average, however. For the money he costs and the minutes he plays, I'm ok with keeping him. I'd probably ask for a minimum of a 2nd now that Grossman is gone.

He's not bad, he's just not a great hockey player. One dimensional D-man with a mean streak. But that means he'll be cheap and a solid depth option.

No he isn't. Dude is a freaking physical beast, but almost no offense. You won't see him scoring highlight goals, but he will show up on giant hit highlights. I really like Fistric. He's definitely trade-able, but I like him.

Fistric is a guy who can't consistently earn a spot over the likes of Jeff Woywitka and Adam Pardy. His only asset that people seem to like is that he's big and he hits. But all he ever does with that is take himself out of position. He has no ability to skate, pass, or shoot.

Sorry, but Fistric is worthless.

He did earn a spot over Pardy.

Realistically he hits but does nothing else well. I don't think he should be traded, but I think he might be a piece of a trade for a better D man as a guy who could be given 2nd pairing responsibility on a rebuilding team.

The team can resign him for cheap and short term, then let him go when prospects are ready.

I'm pretty big on the guy. He's about average defensively, but pretty much no offense at all. His physicality is some of the best in the league, though. He can absolutely destroy guys, and a quick youtube search of his name will prove this.

I think short term, he's a great bottom pairing option, but there are better choices.

Right now, I'd look for a low 2nd, or a 3rd for him, but I doubt GMJN is looking to trade him. He'll probably be available within a couple years, though.

Damn, and me without a third and fourth this year.

Is this one of those cases of you'd want his salary off the books at any cost, or more as in you're looking for the best value.

Salary has next to no impact, unless he's asking for 3+ or something ridiculous.

We'd be looking for the best value right now.

This thread was started by a flyers fan (I think?), many Stars fans expect Fistric to be back for 1-2 years and play on the bottom pairing/7th d man.

We neither need his contract off the books nor are expecting a large return for him.

This is 100% correct. We just need him off the ice.

Would a 3rd rounder prove sufficient? Yay or nay?

Can he play right side ?

He's the physical guy who blocks shots, but isn't really good defensively ?

Habs need a physical guy who can somewhat fight to play with Marky.

I just don't seem him being traded. That'd probably mean both Souray and Robidas stick around, which cannot happen...

Robidas should be available, though.

If somebody offers a 2nd for him the Stars need to take that and run. Dillon can replace him, and Souray/Robidas can be back if the Stars can get that price for him.
